People are anxious because expectations are higher. It's not like 60 years ago when simply food and shelter was enough. The average Chinese are demanding middle class comforts like 100 square meter apt for 3-4 person families, private car, vacations, post-graduate degrees......

As expectations go up, the government needs to step up their game. This is a good thing for all (except foreigners jealous of China's progress).
