China replaces Britain in world's top five arms exporters: report

Whoa, rip-offs of others tech or not, very impressive effort by the Chinese! This is extra revenue at the end of the day!

55% finds its way to Pakistan, their customer base isn't too diversified to be called a major arms supplier in the lines of US, Russia, UK or EU.

I agree but that where does that other 45% go? Africa mostly, but whatever way you cut it, China is a major arms supplier and it is only going to do more buisness in the future.

FN-6 scored 2 downed Syrian helicopters by rebels with-out professional training in such weapons indicate the effectiveness of the missile system. We may see more sell of such missiles.

Another near 15-20% of their arms goes to Sudan, and the rest goes to nations without any functioning government.

Before you criticize others, you should ask yourself, "how much weapons in dollar amount did India export and where does India ranked among arm exporting nations". Hopefully, you have the info before others start to ask you for those numbers.

I think that is an unfair statement. How much India export did not have any affect on where the Chinese weapon goes. the 55% to pakistan is a fact presented by the Trusted Swedish Agency. How much Indian export or to how many country does not affect this scale in any bit.

You also need to notice that in the article it said, China is second to Indian of import arms too.

China followed only India in the acquisition of arms, though its reliance on imports is decreasing as it ramps up weapons production capabilities at home.

You cannot judge how successful or unsuccessful of CHinese weapon market by looking at Indian Export or Import.

we are at least self-sufficient if not making a net profit on I & E of arms whereas indians are having huge net deficits

A lot of Chinese arm export is never publicized for example of the FN-6 SAM exported to Syria which is then captured by Rebel and uses against them.

I think your are talking about these:

Russian arms are tried and tested, I hope to see some Chinese arms used and see how they fare.

However, with more export customer. The Chinese weapon would be more readily to used as study for possible counter measure.
First of all, most Chinese weapon have an image of "Secrecy", with export customer in mind, Such secrecy cannot be continue and the whole Chinese Weapon market would become more transprent.

This allow a lot of room for other country, friends or foes too study Chinese weapon, for better or worse.

Are they still able to gauge China's capabilities considering that, more than likely, these weapons are the inferior versions of what the PLA is armed with? Wouldn't there be many ways for a foreign government to more easily pay off for or collect information on another country's weapons systems?

Not JF-17 and many othres

Usually we will sell the versions when we have successfully developed another version, step by step and in line with international practices! The versions that are sold are all top quality ensured!

Really depend on which country China sell their weapon to and the condition of weapon.

Of course one can mask the true capability of thier own weapon and still keep secret of their own. However, you always need to consider why people want to buy your weapon in the first place. If you change to much and put too many off the shelve technology or using a whole foreign parts to put it to the watered down version of Chinese weapon. You may hurt business.

When one build a weapon, you build with indigenous technology in mind, you will enconunter competibility issue when you put a foreign parts on what it supposed to be an indigenous technology. That the dilenma Chinese facing when they try to push their weapon on international market.

There are some traditional Chinese weapon users, such as Parkistan, Thailand, Burma,Egypt,Algeria,Sudan,Tanzania,Cambodia
and the newcomers: Malaysia, Indonesia,Morocco,Argentina,Venezuela,Nigeria,Sri Lanka,Namibia,Bolivia
So It is no wonder that when these traditional Chinese weapon users want to renew their whole systems, Chinese weapons export will increase.

Considering the current state of the British military industry, the result is hardly surprising.
