Not cooperation but a healthy competition between the US and China this decade on who lands a man on Mars first. Just like the US won the race with the Soviet Union in the 1960s to land a man on the moon.

I don’t see how SpaceX won’t be the first to land humans on Mars, especially at the pace they innovate. Elon also has the best engineers in the world working for him. It’s going to be tough for anyone else to compete.

Yes China is the underdog here but it has the base technology and the money to at least try.

If China landed a man on Mars before the US then this would send a signal to the world that China has finally arrived as a tier 1 technological power.

It is probably too late for China now as they needed to have made the investments in the 2010s on the huge rocket boosters that will be required to reach Mars with the capsule and equipment for a manned mission.

That’s not to mention the huge headstart SpaceX has. While SpaceX will launch Starship to orbit in the next few months, China has a PowerPoint. For China to surpass SpaceX, your essentially betting on Elon and his team to be complete failures and Chinese engineers to be 10X as innovative than SpaceX engineers. And we know that’s not true. SpaceX is also getting fed US government contracts, and expertise from NASA.

Absolutely wrong! If China is risk adverse, they wouldn't be pushing a risky mission like tianwen-1 which accomplished 3 mission in one goal in Mars.

What has SpaceX achieved? Have they even landed anything on moon yet? His so called reusable first stage rocket so far failed to live up the hype of 25 times result. Dispose only after 5 uses. The cost saving is still far from one time dispose of a normal rocket.

US Space shuttle was also claim to be highly innovative and we know NASA abandon this white elephant and rest is history.

China is a country back by 2500 years of history and civilization. It is tested thru times. Driven by this feat, all Chinese will strive for even better when Persian and Egypt civilisation which both claim to have a earlier history than Chinese, couldn't even survive until now.

Precisely, the cost saving of repeated use has yet to surpass disposable rocket by SpaceX. And so far , beside launching rocket. We have yet to see any real innovative and feat achieved better than NASA and CNSA yet.

How many space station has spacex launched? Zero....
