In a shift from the harsh rhetoric of the past weeks, Chinese state media on Friday hoped that next week’s visit to China by National Security Adviser Ajit Doval will help end the Doklam crisis and advance China-India ties.

“Despite concerns on possible military clashes, Chinese experts reached by the Global Times on Friday said they hoped that the upcoming visit of Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval would serve as an opportunity to ease the tension,” an article in the state-run tabloid said, quoting Ma Jiali, a research fellow from a Beijing-based think tank, China Reform Forum.

Mr. Ma is a veteran academic, who has been engaged in Track-2 diplomacy with India following former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s visit to Beijing in 1988.

Mr. Doval will participate in a two-day BRICS event starting on July 27.

Key visit
The NSA’s visit will be key to solving the current dispute and if the two sides failed to reach some agreement on the issue, the China-India ties would be severely damaged, Mr. Ma observed.

The daily prefaced the anticipation of Mr. Doval’s visit by slamming remarks by BJP leader R.K. Singh, who had reportedly opposed changing the status quo in Doklam, on grounds that it would endanger India's vital interests.

Better communication
But striking a remarkably conciliatory note ahead of Mr. Doval’s visit, a commentary by state-run Xinhua news agency underscored that both countries “need to enhance communication and nurture trust between them, first by recognizing that the two are not born rivals and that harboring ill will against each other is dangerous”.

The focus on enhancing communication echoes recent observations by former National Security Adviser Shivshankar Menon. In a recent interview with The Hindu, Mr. Menon stressed that India and China “since the ’80s been rubbing up against each other in the periphery we share”.

Mr. Menon added: “So we do need a new strategic dialogue to discuss how we should sort out problems.”

The Xinhua commentary pointed out that the recent border issue “shows a lack of strategic trust on the Indian side”.

Economic ties
However, it highlighted that as “the two countries are the world's biggest potential markets, each with over a billion people, they could develop complementary industries and cooperate in protecting common security”.

Working together, China and India could build something unprecedentedly wonderful for not just themselves, but the whole region and the world.

The write-up pointed out that the Asian continent would be a big loser if the China-Indian rivalry cements.Obviously the two would pay a heavy price first of all. Even Japan, the U.S. ally who relies heavily on the Chinese market, would suffer an economic blow, which could turn into a domestic crisis.”

“Most economies, including those in the West, will find themselves negatively affected by an India-China war in a globalised and intertwined world today,” it observed.

“The only beneficiaries (of a conflict), sadly, will be opportunists, short-sighted nationalist politicians who don't really have the people's interests in heart. And the dream of an Asian century would become a puff of wind.”

This is the most important point. India does not trust China and that is why India is nervous about doklam in Chinese hands as it can be used to cut off India's main routes to northeast.

Just doklam ,tell me about projects in phk ,gave missile tech to Pakistan ,they gave nw to Pakistan ,will they tolerate if we give the same to Vietnam.
These are just few points

my two cents:
had China chosen India over Pakistan, the resulting Asian union would have ruled the world. Pakistan eventually being either pushed towards more islamism (arab influence - joining the arab sphere of influence) or towards more secular development and join the Asian Union. would have made a total shambles out of the US diplomacy in Asia. for china, there would be compomise - That would mean sharing spotlight with India. India might have worked out an eventual thaw between China and Japan, and maybe China would work out an eventual thaw between India, Pak.
However, the Chinese chose to become the undisputed leader of Asia (nothing wrong with this). and that left an India sized foothold for the US to continue its influence. the SCS dispute and the continued China-Japan rift means China isnt going to have a smooth transition into the super power status.

Exactly. We could have been on the path to a peaceful Asian century. Now, I am not very sure.

China is in a better position to change the course but I think she is too ambitious.

I hope Ajit doval will carry a handwritten letter of apology from Modi

If you don't have anything to contribute, please keep quiet.

Of course no asian century man.

India is a selfish nation.

Look at how manipulative it is towards neighbours, send troops to split east pakistan, fishing disputes with sri lanka, funded LTTE etc, grabing land from bangladesh etc, abusing bangladesh workers and civilians

A lot of things had happened in the past. I am not saying that India was a saint and India never did any mistakes. But mistakes were done by other countries too; some more and some less. But what is the use of discussing all the past events to death and keep fighting with each other all the time? At some point in time, it is wise to leave the past, forget and forgive, and help each other to prosper.

No, i must continue...

India had many LTTE training camps in tamil nadu and LTTE basically robbed Sri Lanka of its golden period.

Trust me, india's military troubles with china is karma coming back.

The problem with Indians is that they want to develop relations with China and other countries at the expense of those countries' relations with Pakistan. :disagree:

U claimed China gave Pakistan nukes/missile tech which irked you...For sake of argument, lets suppose it is correct, Then why u didn't develop good strategic relations with China to stop China from doing so...Pakistan wouldn't have got these stuff if you had been on good terms with Chinese...U messed it up in 1962.

Problem is India can't establish herself as limelight of Asia unless Pakistan is removed from Asia, which will never happen. It is now can only be called wet dream of Indians to establish relationship with China at expense of Pakistan. China will keep providing stuff to Pakistan whether Indians like it or not. Indians, admit it, you are too late, now. :) Pakistan has already started linking her economy with Chinese one. Defense relations are all time high. Expect more warmth after current China-India standoff :D Heck, you are still unable to manage China, standing in their territory due to fear of your chicken neck

Pakistan China relations are already called Iron brotherhood. We enjoy goodwill in country which is near superpower, right next neighbor and have more than billion people. :pakistan: What do you want more?

It was Pakistan who caught hands of Chinese when whole world, including India, used to discard them as drug addicts/useless nation. When India was busy in attacking China in 1962, Pakistan was giving Chinese the exposure of western tech, was introducing them to US/western world, which created modern day China...They are still thankful to us to this day.
India did blunder and Pakistan took advantage. Result is here for everyone to see. Now, Indians are butt hurt while Pakistan is enjoying her relations with China having popcorn.

Asian century will be formed by Pakistan and China (HINT: CPEC)

If India wants to find space in China, they will have to make better relations with Pakistan. Otherwise by starting CPEC and having strategic relations with Pakistan, China has shown on which side they are standing.

GDP of mumbai equals that of pakistan. Enough said, now get down.

That won't stop Pakistan from forming Asian century with China.

I give two hoots to Mumbai and her GDP.

Pakistan’s GDP is way above that of Mumbai.

People have been comparing Mumbai’s Gdp in PPP terms without converting Pakistan’s GDP in the same measure.

GDP pakistan ppp. 811billion USD

GDP Mumbai ppp. 368 billionUSD
