NEW DELHI: China's contention over its rights in the South China Sea and reported incursions by its troops in Ladakh could be its way of asserting itself but India will protect its rights "strongly", Minister of State for Defence M M Pallam Raju said today.

"I think like any nation which wants to assert its right, I guess China is trying to do its bit... As a country, we are very clear about our rights and interests. We will protect our interests very strongly," Raju told reporters here.

The Minister was asked to comment on the recent incursions by Chinese troops in Ladakh and the objection raised by it over oil exploration by Indian companies in South China sea on the sidelines of a Navy function.

Asked if the Government was scared of China, Raju said, "As a country, we will do whatever it takes to protect our interests... there is no reticence."

Urging the media to focus on the positives of relations between India and China, he said, "We have great economic engagement with China which is growing and we have to focus on positives."

Raju said the two countries had differences in perception over the demarcation of the Line of Actual Control dividing them and were engaged in a dialogue to resolve the issue.

Meanwhile, replying to a query on an alleged scam in the Directorate General of Resettlement (DGR) under the Defence Ministry, he said, "Whatever report has been given to us, we are looking into irregularities."

On the age issue of Army Chief Gen V K Singh, he said, "I think that has been answered in a Parliamentary question. This is not an issue for public debate but an internal matter which we is being looked into. Everybody is dealing with it in a dignified manner."

we are on right way.
Actually we are way off the track. We shouldn't be enticing Dragon unless people in New Delhi are willing to take strong steps and most importantly unless we are ready (which believe me my friend we are not).

.
India has told China in no uncertain terms that India will explore oil in Vietnam waters on the invitation of Vietnam, no matter what China claims.

It is the same as Chinese working in Pakistan held Kashmir which India claims.

If that is OK, then Indian action is also OK.

What is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander!!

You are sure we are not ready.

of-course my friend we are not ready. and it applicable to china also. any war with us, will throw away, china dream to become super. many of nations aware of china, will attract all of them. it's not that much easy as we think of war between us.

I agree with you, any war between India and China will destroy both of them but we don't have to worry because no-one in New Delhi has the balls to even say something if China does something. They are not giving IA what they want to be ready but our politicians are confident that our army can defend the country even though MOD rejects every request made by army and even the countries like Afghanistan are equipping their forces better than us.

Man i can't remember when was the last time when a major deal was signed for IA. Major projects like TCS, BMS, FINSAS, helicopter deals, artillery, MBTs, ICVs are all nowhere near their end.

Wasting 12,000 carore for shake of some million worth of oil is not so convincing.....
Obviously 'War mongers' want more and more money for Security when 37% are BPL and 25% are illiterate...
Obiously We should go for Oil where ever possible but not make every 'deal' , a question of Life and death

Thank you Indian babus!

You are so naive ! When will you get it ? It is not about oil. The Vietnam move is a counter measure to China's Kashmir ploy. Vietnam is important instrument in our look east policy. When China is propping up our neighbors, should we not respond by forming alliances with its neighbors ? And please keep your poverty and illiteracy figurs aside for once. We are talking about national security here !
