Indeed., It will pave way for Mars sample return in future.
Collecting samples on Mars should be no problem, i think the challenge is to ascend from Mars which is completely different from our Moon. We need a huge rocket to send an orbiter or lander to leave our atmosphere this is not different from Mars certainly the different gravity will also play a crucial role in the calculation but still you get my point. So our experience and success with Chang'e 5 can not be fully applied to Mars.

Someone enlighten me; didn't the Russians bring back lunar rock a long time ago?

They didn't bring back from the more valuable spot Chang e 5 did and Russian one manage to get only 176g compare to China targeted 2kg. Finally, Russia return sample was directly blast off from lunar surface instead of multiple stages of relaying complexity which will facilitate future lunar orbit support station.

One thing I found interesting is how there was a major NASA annoincement that large amounts of water existed on the moon. Somebody made the point that the Russians had discovered that years ago with their lunar sample!
