China internet: Ren Zhiqiang's account blocked after Xi criticism

ff

China has shut down the microblogging accounts of outspoken former property tycoon Ren Zhiqiang after he criticised President Xi Jinping.

The Cyberspace Administration of China accused Mr Ren of publishing "illegal messages that had a bad impact".

Mr Ren had written that state media were funded by taxpayers and should serve them, not the Communist Party.

President Xi urged state media early this month to follow party lines in their reporting.

China has been criticised for its strict internet regulations, including blocking major sites and censoring posts.

But Mr Xi has argued that countries had the right to choose how to develop and regulate the internet.

Almost 40 journalists are currently in prison in China for work posted online, the advocacy group Reporters Without Borders says.

Ren Zhiqiang is a retired top property developer with more than 30 million online followers.

His Weibo blog last week attacking Mr Xi had been criticised by state media - one referring to him as referring "anti-Communist Party" thoughts.

Internet users had to stick to the law and the fundamentals of socialism, said Jiang Jun, a spokesman for the Cyberspace Administration of China.

China has also unveiled new rules - coming into effect on 10 March - banning foreign media companies and foreign joint ventures from distributing content online without prior approval by Beijing officials.

Ren Zhiqiang is a CPC member. Apparently what he said and did strongly violated the disciplines of CPC. So he was punished via blocking his account. As long as he is a CPC member, he should obey the disciplines

I believe the CPC member has been strongly beneficial to Ren zhiqiang's career and business in China. So in return, he should obey the very restricted CPC disciplines

But the problem is who is NOT CPC member? Especially when a person has any influence in the Chinese society, he is almost required to be a CPC member. You can't force all people who want to rise in their career to be a CPC member, and then stop them from speaking.

Are you kidding me? Where did you get this weird idea? To be a CPC member has always been a privilege in China. When I was in my under graduate year, I tried hard for 3 years for it, and did not make it.

For a while, I thought you knew something about China. He would have been shot long time ago for being "anti national" if he were in India. By the way, he is a typical CPC "princeling”, and he accumulated tremendous personal wealth for being the head of state-owned-enterprise, which he failed.

The founder and owner of Tencent, a Giant IT company in China, is also not a CPC member. Many influential and rich business men in China are not CPC member, although they are allowed to join the CPC

So what happen if he continues to violate the disciplines? CCP gonna punish him more by taking away his Playstation 4?
Depends on the degree of violation. He might be kicked out from the party.

This is a typical post without brain.:D:D

I always admire you people that could free talk without any logic and thinking to serve your points and opinions.:D:D

Maybe people just need some courage and ignorance to behave like this.:D:D

Actually, this news related to Ren Zhiqiang is just about an organization that try to fix it's problems, period.

If, in the US, either the Republican or Democratic party does this to their members, people would be criticizing US as being 'undemocratic'. But since it is China, such oppressive policies are just fine.

Western media has already criticized the Chinese government as breach of freedom of speech for this

I am turning 72 this year. Having lived for 72 years so far, I can tell you from experience that having your Playstation taken away is more painful than getting your weibo account blocked. So if people think getting a weibo account taken away is a painful punishment, I recommend the next step of punishment is to take away his Playstation 4. That should teach him not to mess with the CCP!!
