Al Jazeera is in fact "Al Janaza" or the "news channel of death".

It surely relies on sensational news like any other channel. First it appeared to be anti-West because it was talking about Gulf war and the deaths and the sensational news.

Then the Gulf war was over, so it had to find sensational news in other parts of the world.

It however hit a jackpot during Arab spring. It had a good following in the Middle East to begin with. And now it became the voice of revolution. However at its core it remains a source of sensational news.
