China finally wins Thailand railway project

Vietnam will be connected sooner or later. Vietnamese might sound like anti-Chin, and this island crap will blow over, but who the hell doesn't want to be connected to it's biggest trading partner, and to Asian integration in general?

There is a chance that Vietnam will become a railway island if all its neighbours will use the Chinese system and Vietnam uses the Japanese system.

Got a bout a trillion dollars to spare?:P I do see Indonesia connected to the mainland of Asia though. Good to see Indonesia wants to be connected and doesn't have irrational fears or hubris.

we share great deal of relationship with various countries, mainly India and China. in China, it begins from Han Dynasty to Qing.

China–Indonesia relations - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The National Museum of Indonesia has one of the best and the most complete collections of Chinese ceramics discovered outside China, dated from Han, Tang, Sung, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasty spanned for almost two millennia.

so it should be natural that we should be connected to our Ancient Friends from East Asia.

we should connect to the middle east as well! the first and the leader of the 9 Islamic Sage (arguably rumored) were originally from Persia.

Indonesia has rejected the idea to link us with South East Asia main land using road from Singapore into Sumatra island.

I said "in the future, they will consider it". For the time being, it's impossible, the construction cost is sky high. Considering the economic situation of Sumatra island, no company presently would take the risk of building, maintaining the tunnel.

not to mention there are active volcanoes in Sumatra, and one SUPER Volcano in Toba Lake crater. it'll be disastrous if the volcanos are erupting again in the future if the railways were centered in Sumatra.

that is why i prefer to connect Indonesia with East Asia through Borneo or Natuna Island. that way, it'll be easier to develop as it connects SCS to Java Sea. Paracel and Spratlys islands makes good railway connections to China and other East Asian countries.

Heaven, no joke. How to connect the islands with East Asia by tunnel? In technology, it's impossible at least 100 years, in economic consideration, forever.

well that's.. i dunno! :D

i'm just giving my suggestions. i'm not well informed about the develpment of the SCS island chains. but if China can make a landmass on top the sea without so much hassle, connecting them using tunnels wouldn't be too difficult imo.

You pay it, you bet.

Indonesia as a maritime nation should prioritize the development of better and bigger sea transport system to connect and link with the rest of the world. Why would we build overprize undersea tunnel when the sea surface is already open up the way for us. Indonesia should become the master of the sea. Jalesvava Jayamahe, in the ocean we triumph.

Yes!
Base on current trading, there is a lot of opportunities between both countries.
VN need components and tech supplies from China.
China need labor and agriculture product from VN
Such railway project can greatly improve trading between two countries
I wish the relationship and emotion of peoples can also improve due to tighter trading and communicating..

Currently, there are two railways connected China and Vietnam.
One is via Nanning, 1435mm, or standard gauge. There is daily train from Hanoi to Nanning via Dong Dang and Pengxiang border cities. Chinese train (except locomotive) can be seen in Gia Lam station any day.

One is via Lao Cai and Hekou. The train (1000mm gauge) run daily from Hanoi to Lao Cai city and from there, passengers have to walk to cross the border to Hekou on the other side and board a standard gauge train to go to Kunming.(the new Hekou Bei station now replaces the old Shanyao station, which connected with Lao Cai station)

However, I hope a double track, standard gauge railways from Hekou/Lao Cai to Hanoi (roughly 300 km) can be materialized soon, as agreed during visit of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to China early this year.

Base on huge experience in China, tunnels and bridges are expensive investment at first.
Yet the later maintenance and operation cost is pretty low comparing to ships.
Also the economy will benefit from easier transportation.
So in general the tunnels and bridges are necessary in area with huge population and economy size

True, but in the case of Indonesia, there's no feasible option for Jakarta to be connected by undersea tunnel with her neighbors.

Indonesia has many major islands.
Connecting them with tunnels will bring you much convenience.
Also Indonesia is very crowded. Transportation will be quite important.
Trains and cars can go through tunnels.
There will be less accident in bad weather..

60% of Indonesia's population is concentrated on Java. For such high profile project with a very high investment cost, other major islands are just not feasible enough economically. We even halt bridge project to connect Java and Sumatra (Sunda Strait Bridge, 31 km) because with our limited budget, we prefer to build and strengthen our maritime infrastructure development. But someday... maybe...

Not the tunnel but just a bridge. The money is not an issue. We have too many potential inside and we want to maximize it for our own sake. It is the reason since we have been offered seriously by the other side (Singapore, Malaysia, etc).

Sumatra is the source of energy and raw material, and we want to secure that resources for our own industry concentration in Java to make you clear about what I mean.
