China factor significant in India’s water war game

Water is one of those things that should always be shared.
Animals keep peace at dusk around watering holes, darn it

And why do you think that is exactly?
With over a billion and a half people
and the world to export to, don't you
think that if water flowed enough to
make fertile plains out of the oases
of the East, they'd grow stuff there too?
Nope , you need arable land to do agriculture.

In the east they are high barren lands like this, very hard for agriculture. More ever there is economic part to it as well. It should be economical for them grow, store and then transport it. Most of the chinese economic activity is in east.

1. Army strikes on dams ? What if the dams are constructed close to gilgit-baltistan and other Pakistan occupied regions ? As the dams are expected to be full most part of the year bombing it will inundate bulk of the areas in proximity causing public outrage in those areas. "pakistani establishment took a decision to flood us for their water" will be the mind voice across Pakistan occupied region. It will start revolts and freedom struggles. Will the pakistani establishment have the balls to do this ?

2. China has no role. They can't block Brahmaputra. They can block Indus but India can easily compensate from the remaining rivers emerging from our borders. Pakistan is the most unfortunate state in the world.

4) Stopping rivers flowing through China will only effect a part of India and not all of India. Ganges is the lifeline of central and western states of India. Incase somebody suggests tweaking Brahmaputra's path, then they should know NE India gets highest rainfall in the world. :)
Exactly only Assam will get affected but not enough to dent agricultural output of India. More ever most of the rivers dont have single source but rain fed tributaries as well. India has rivers covering most part of the country except western desert rajasthan.

It's called geo-engineering and Mars is next! :woot:

The Chinese have been at it for thousands of years
and will do their own tech support, don'tcha worry!

:-) Have a great day, Tay.

The above image is from Jordan not Libya actually.

There will be no need for all of this..just the economic cost to India as an unreliable country will be tremendous...Modi is like a broken record trumpeting non stop..after some days world leaders will begin to get fed up of him..which will have direct benefit to China as a sane, rational and responsible regional power...but offcourse in bollywood..India always wins..jaye shri modi jee...!

We can also use the 4 Million Afghanis as a potent weapon by forcing them to cross the LOC under gun point..

Don't ever say China is a responsible regional power. It is bigger rogue nation. With such an economy and military clout China should have united all of Asia against the daughter-selling west. Instead of doing that China has sought disputes and troubles with several Asian nations just for the sake of establishing its hegemony. Now china is exactly doing what the west is expecting, lack of unity in Asia. By this way china is playing an indirect pimp to the western interests in Asia. China clearly lost it.

Afghanistan ? Ha ha.....several million afghans will be happy to walk into Pakistan and liberate Balochistan.

Salut, Tay.

Re-P.S.

In Libya under Gaddafi, they made stuff grow in the desert with tech support.

Russia got Turkey to shake hands with Syria. :undecided:

Exactly!!!
I'm glad India is a huge country. It's the first time when it's size is gonna work in the country's favour.
United we stand divided we fall!
Hail India. :)

Why would you do that when it is cost effective to import than to farm? China imports beef from US, we can ask them to rear cows as well it is easier than agriculture. Eons back your suggestion would make sense as most of the countries dint have forex to do trade but now that is not the case. Other thing is the agriculture output does not gel with market supply & demand very well. A bumper crop every where means decline in price. In India govt finds it very hard to buy back wheat from farmers if there is a oversupply. Price of perishable output like vegetable, fruits ..etc nose dive with seasonal changes. As a farmer it is very hard to take that risk, but govt can do it . It will take a lot of effort including supply chain management like setting up cold storage facility...etc. Altogether it is possible by govt but lot of downsides as well.

It is time for China to make good on those plans to shut the tap on India.

If China block Indus ==> Paksitan will suffer.
If they block Brahmaputra ==> Bangladesh will suffer.

Now let them decide what they have to do. :-)

First & Foremost it is a River Flow not a Tap water where India can turn it On & OFF ... india would require to build Dams (Dozens of it) first in order to stop & consequentially store the continuous incoming flow of water ... it is such a Logistical nightmare that i can't even ...

IWT is arbitrated by World Bank so any significant violation will trigger its response & would result in bring a whole new string of issues to india for being the "Aggressor"

Pakistan with the population of 200 Million Population is already water scarce & should india even try to re-visit the treaty ...won't be able to win any additional leverages over the water it already have ...

The International Community won't let india get away with Water Scarce Pakistan ... as it would create a human tragedy.

the only significant threat is india try to tamper with the water flow provisions ... Pakistan is supposed to get no less than 80% of the Three Eastern Rivers and india can try to reduce tht share illegally .... Pakistan have to be aware of such tactics and bring it to world's notice whenever this happens .. Pakistan REALLY need to build its Dam at the earliest to keep water reserves in case of any untoward happening (these Dams eventually are a necessity given the Global Warming).

So in short india can gloat all it wants as it always does .. but imagining tht turning a Tap close, Pakistan will turn into a desert in a day and no one will bat an eye ... come on be Realistic ...... Oh wait we are talking about india .... Meri saadgi dekh kiya chata hoon !

PS: I have a very serious prediction that in coming 20-30 years if not less... a war over Indus River water is brewing ... regardless of india try to control the Indus water or not .... as Global warming will make water an scarcity and increasing population will compound the problem ... Pakistan would have to take serious action to control all the Six River of IWT & Keep Kabul River flowing ... and any provocation form india or Afghanistan is not gonna be of any help !!!

With force nothing will happen until or unless you are Uncle Sam hell bent on bringing Democracy. Only way forward is mutual trust, India has not even utilized what is there in IWT for herself since 1960 nor it has gone back during 65,71 , Kargil and others. This should have been much to assure the Pakistanis about India's intention.

India should understand one thing which is very very simple it cannot lie down Pakistan in any means Either resolve all issues including kashmir

If india solves issues pros and cons

1. Entire south east Asia will have long lasting peace
2. Entire Asia grow twice the faster and effects will be directly on common public which also grow
3 just imagine China India Pakistan Afghanistan Iran Russia turkey trade entire west economy will be destroyed in seconds

There are no cons no one looses

If india keep doing stupid things

1. War will be imminent Pakistan have no choice to destroy india and India destroy Pakistan
2 after nuke each other which water india is stopping it is not good or use able for anyone

No pros

India has to mature what is significant good for region get out of ego

India. Has circled itself whatever it do at the end haunt them if they stop water China stop their water so it will be war for india to fight against chin a for water at same time Pakistan attack india for Pak share of water in both ways looser will be india

India wanted to isolate Pakistan but geographicaly Pak can never be circled who ever wants to circle Pak it end up in trap

Better for india to mature and understand the geographical interest it has no option other than negotiating with regional players every one contribute with India but india has to get out of its ego first

Next super power is China so india has too many problems better of resolving them than resisting

Kashmir should be separate state Pak and India can negotiate two party system there so both countries has their representatives in kashmir parliment and free visas for Pak and Indian people is a good deal for Pak and India

Yes you are right but i

China blocks two main Indian rivers what will you do

Or even China don't than India flood itself

Dear in future every nation has to clean water of sea as few countries already doing it so you are not poisoning us but giving us new options

Anyway plz answer if China blocks your water what will u do
The sanest thing Pakistan needs to do is to abandon the Kashmir dream. See, it is totally impossible to take back Kashmir. So, why waste time and resources on it ? Can't someone with common sense realize this ? Also occupied Kashmir is legally entitled to India. So Pakistan must vacate for long lasting peace. Since none of the above will happen you own people will think u are delusional.

test us plz you will know how big balls they have.
secondly india can't stop pakistani water with a treaty in action. you will be isolated world wide and would your case easily at international world court. we are actually fortunate to sign this treaty 45 years ago. but you don't have any treaty with china. what an unfortunate country india is.

It doesn't have to, as India would have zero choice but to let the water flow.
technically speaking they can't store all the water and can't divert it either due to geographical reasons. its impossible to break a trillion dollar worth way for river through mountains of kashmir.

mao visio is to use brahamputra and indus for china as northern china is too cold for water to flow.

One can tell the sick mentality of Indians when one side talk about eradicating poverty and unemployment while on the other side they are calculation an option equivalent of medieval age siege of annihilation.

We can also use the 4 Million Afghanis as a potent weapon by forcing them to cross the LOC under gun point..
1. they can't break the treaty unilaterally.
2. they will be internationally isolated in case they do it.
3. they will lose the case at international court of justice and will have to compensate pakistan on blockage of water.
4. china north is already extreme cold so they are planning to use southern rivers for domestic purposes. they will have a case strong enough to do it.
5. pakistan will go to an all out war for survival.
6. no other country like bangladesh and nepal will sign any water treaty with india with strong guarantee from world powers due to worse indian record.
7. they can't store all water and they can't divert its direction specially in kashmir mountains.

test us plz you will know how big balls they have.

Your comments show the level of rationale you have. Instead of teaching you I am going to tell you something. IWT survived two wars but it is still clinging on. Now if India abrogates it the world will question India but will blame Pakistan. India will simply say Pakistan is exporting terrorism. No one can legally force India to stay in the treaty as per the Vienna convention (read more). China can't hurt India as far as rivers are concerned. Thank god India is gifted with sufficient water and rains.

Pakistan is the most unfortunate country, anyway.
