China-EU Geopolitics: News & Discussions

"INTELLECTURALLY DEAD"? You know the first one isn't even a word right?

lol, so big fricking deal, I make a typo.

By the way intelligently is most definitely a word.

Intelligently | Define Intelligently at Dictionary.com

Did you even read the articles posted?

The US is the one opposing China's Market economy status. Which is no surprise, since they are the number 1 most protectionist country in the world, the most anti-free trade.

Which article? The OP's 2 article only ever mention US once

China believes it should be automatically recognised as market economy in December when it has been a WTO member for 15 years, but this view is contested by the United States.

no where in the article say the US is strongly oppose to the move, beside the word "Contested" by the United States. In fact, in the article, it said Italy is the country that oppose Stratfor recognize China as free market, not the US.

And The US were also actually contesting China being recognized by WTO, not Stratfor.

So, where in the article did it say anything about US about EU recognized China as a Market Economy?

So you didn't even read the articles before you started ranting at me, calling me "intelligently dead" (which makes zero grammatical sense)?

The US is opposing China's Market economy status, it is perfectly relevant to the topic of this thread. And it was included in the articles posted, if you had actually bothered to read them.

If you wish to censor anything related to America then you'd need to get @Slav Defence to change the rules of this forum.

lol, I have read the article, and you obliviously haven't

I called you intelligently dead, which make perfect grammatical sense as you fail to displaying or characterized by quickness of understanding, sound thought, or good judgment on a post. Hence you are intelligently dead to the discussion.

Again, if you have read the article, it never say US oppose EU (They have no jurisdiction ANYWAY) to confer the Market Status to China. And you are the one that bring in US in this discussion.

Let's recap, shall we.

You bring US in to a discuss that have no relation to. And then start bashing it for no reason, and when I challenge your bash, you give me some mumble 5 post in a roll and avoid a possible discussion. And now you insult my language skill (Which make perfect sense but you fail to undertand, which saying something there) and now you are calling me censoring anything related to US?

LOL. just exactly who you bribe to get a title of Think Tank analyst? This is not the TTA level of discussion I anticipated. Maybe it's too harsh to ask you to discuss problem seriously without bashing and randomly link America in a topic. Sigh, I was actually having high hope

The personal attacks continue I see. You've called me "intelligently dead" at least 5 times now, simply because you failed to read the very first article posted on this thread, in which the US is mentioned in the first few paragraphs.

America is opposing our Market economy status, just like they tried to stop their allies from joining the AIIB. Everyone saw how that one turned out.

Market economy status is inevitable for China, given enough time. America is simply showing themselves as the enemy of the Chinese people with this pointless behavior.

Wow man you really don't like anyone talking about America.

Too bad for you that's not how this forum works. The US was mentioned in the first few paragraphs of the first article, so it's up for discussion. Your censorship attempts are not worth anything here.

America's behavior in opposing China's Market economy status is foolish, and similar to the AIIB debacle, shows how much the superpower is declining. They know they can't stop it, yet they are constantly making a bad name for themselves in the eyes of the Chinese people.

Even someone who was originally friendly to America is not going to be any longer, after seeing their behavior.

lol, whatever.

I seems to forgot which currency AIIB is being settled on. IS it RMB? Or something else? Oh right, THEY CHOOSE TO SETTLE WITH THE USD.

You can pick around with this thread and bash US, and as always, beside the certain selected team of your brigade member and your previous American friendly new member, nobody cares.... Just so you know, be careful what you wish for, becoming a Market Economy mean China will have to be OPENED and CRAVED up, it's a two way street pal. Can't wait for the day when your government let you down by flooding western brand and many of your blue collar citizens losing their job. Maybe that is when China say no to CCP.

Adios, keep on your good work bashing, until someone cares, don't give up

I don't know why you are so desperate to censor any talk regarding America, even when they are clearly mentioned in the first few paragraphs of the first article.

It doesn't help America's image at all. If anything it's having the opposite effect.

As for the CCP falling, well everyone knows that no government can last forever. But a democratic China would probably be even more nationalistic than the current one, since they would have to pander to the nationalist vote banks. :azn:

EU shouldn’t deny China market status
Source:Global Times Published: 2016-5-14 0:28:01

The European Parliament on Thursday passed a non-binding resolution saying China should not be granted market economy status. Citing worries from some European companies and trade unions, the resolution said the status will lead to more cheap Chinese products flooding into the European markets, hurting local jobs. Under the World Trade Organization (WTO) framework, European countries can use a "surrogate country system" during anti-dumping investigations, in which the costs of production in a third country are used to calculate the value of products from non-market economies.

That practice can last 15 years after a ruling. It will expire on December 11 this year and China will be considered a market economy.

Now some people in Europe are having a second thought. They are trying to find some excuse to overthrow the EU's earlier commitment to China. They say China has not kept the promises made upon WTO entry.

The market economy status is losing its value. Among the 193 UN members, only seven still lack such a status. This shows the status must have been granted to unqualified members. China does $1.5 billion of trade with Europe every day. No more than 3 percent of China's exports to the EU suffer anti-dumping investigations.

It is unfair to tag China a non-market economy. The European countries can pick whatever meets their interests when choosing a surrogate country. Then they make the Chinese government and Chinese companies wear the cap of dishonesty.

Granting the status of market economy has become more like a political game. Most of the votes at the European Parliament are believed to be an expression of their political dissatisfaction with China.

Before Russia joined the WTO in 2002, the EU admitted its market economy status. It did it for a political purpose - to soften and reform Russia.

The world's trade situation has changed. China has now become a super-economy and has greater say. After December 11, even though the EU and North America do not recognize China's market economy status, they will find it more difficult to find fault with Chinese companies than before. China will work hard to gain its rights and find more chances to win the disputes.

It is a shame for China, as the world's second largest economy, to be labeled as one of just seven among 193. The EU and US still have no courage to admit the reality of China's market status. Their attempt to keep their super trade partner a non-market economy may be a result of their selfishness in protecting their own interests, however ridiculous it is.

EU are the prefect hypocrites. They are claim be fair but they are not in fact. When I was on year long visit of EU, I discovered a very confusing trend, many European people learning Chinese language and boasting their skills but at the same time bad mouthing China for everything, I could sense fear and prejudice. They claim to champion free market but then they made EU to grant special status to the countries of Europe for trade with each other.

.
The Problem is, CHINA IS NOT A MARKET ECONOMY. That's simply the fact.

You cannot call yourselves a market economy when the Government still protect its market and control the flow of goods and trade in large number, one of the major problem Chinese economy has is its State Enterprises. Where they will pump out goods just for the sake of keeping the production line and the job going, disregarding how much supply and demand affect the actual market.

The op article said the EU should grant China Market out of POLITICAL CONSIDERATION, like Russia but not according to Economic consideration, like the rest of the world, however, it would be okay if Russia were granted Market Economy because it's influence in world market is small, the problem is, what will happen if China considered a market economy?

The reform China serious need must be achieve before China granted Market Economy. Otherwise, the implication of world trade will be seriously masterminded by the controlling of Market Price by Chinese Government.

Unless EU continue to erect Anti-Dumping law and make an exception after China admitted Market Economy status, they would not be granting China such status until market reform in China is complete.

I want the EU to push our interests first. Granting China "free market" status must have one prime objective: it must be completly in our interest. I dont want "fair" treaties. I want profitable treaties.

I´m sure you understand this.

EU cannot dictate to a power like China - it is as simple as that.

Look at the UK - it dumped the US in favour of China.

When EU folks starts loosing jobs, when steel mills in UK start closing only then will EU see sense which they are beginning to. No country would allow China to destroy their domestic industries, people would rebel if politicians don't follow their wishes.

I forsee world moving towards greater protectionism. If success of Bernie and Trump is any indicator then soon China is going to be in trouble when it comes to underhanded economic practices like dumping and currency manipulation.

Nobody dictates anything. Within EU boarders the EU can do what it want.

We live in the age of protectionism. If we profit from china not getting market status so be it.

I want a solution that profits us. Thats what i said.

So that said your post makes no sense.

Why should the EU sign a treaty that would profit china and not profit europe`?
