What's new

China develops new rocket for manned moon mission: media

Politics, Nationalism, egoism for space stations, launching commercial satellites etc is understandable. But regarding interplanetary expedition if all the countries pull their resources together, I think humans can land man on Mars and beyond sooner!!

. . .
You are right.
I thought they wasted their huge amount for nothing.

But we should mention that now private corp managed the launches.
Recent Orion mission take place by ULA an unfunded joint venture. Or others by SpaceX or foreign contractors like Indian.

It's the biggest jump.

The US didn't make a lot of progress in the last 50 years either.

Considering from the Saturn V to the SLS, it is definitely not a big jump.

True, going from the Saturn V to the SLS isn't that radical of a jump, but considering all that came in between, the US has made much progress in the last 50 years.

Here's a small (and this is an important word as we've done a lot in the last 50 years) sample of what the US has done:

We've done a lot in the last 50 years... but so too has China, just not as much:

The US space program hasn't sat still the last 50 years, it's still the undisputed king that all others are trying to catch. China has made great progress and continues to put the world in awe, but neither NASA, nor US space companies like SpaceX nor CNSA are sitting still.

Because the current technology has encountered its bottleneck.

No groundbreaking technology from the science fiction movies.

China's rockets to use pollution-free propellants
2014-12-09

China's next generation carrier rockets using non-polluting propellants may fly as early as 2015, a top space scientist revealed on Monday.

The rockets fueled by liquid oxygen and diesel as well as liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen, will make their maiden flights within the next two years, Lei Fanpei, chairman of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, the main contractor for the country's space program, said in an interview with Xinhua.

The next generation will include the heavy Long March-5 and the smaller Long March-7. It will take about 15 years for an overall upgrading.

The Long March-5 will have a payload capacity of 25 tonnes to low Earth orbits, or 14 tonnes to geostationary transfer orbit, about twice the current capacity, and could be a serious competitor to the U.S. Delta-4H.

The Long March-7 will carry up to 13.5 tonnes to low Earth orbit or 5.5 tonnes to sun-synchronous orbit at a height of 700 km. It will carry cargo craft for the planned space station. Its maiden flight should be next year.

what China has are all new projects, what US had most are finished projects, that US had a glorious past, if we forget the miserable results reusable space vehicle made, now US went back to spaceship again, but a little later, after 2020, the only country having space station on earth is China.

The issue with NASA is not lack of capabilities nor lack of funds. Its the people that are running it.

The problem with NASA is it lack leadership. With so much money yet NASA now has no manned space ship. NASA is made up of many factions each supporting their own rocket technology and of course ...their job.
Building the space shuttle and abandoning the Saturn rocket was a big mistake. The space shuttle is a design flaw and turned out to be the most dangerous space ship.

China space program on the other is led by very capable people with strong leadership. Their space program is progressing step by step in a very methodologically and pragmatic way.

We are not sure about that.
ISS could last longer while Chinese space station core is still not ready.

ISS is more meaningful to the world. Like InterCosmos project of Soviet Union in the past.

Pham Tuan
He became the first Vietnamese citizen and the first non-Russian Asian in space when he flew aboard the Soyuz 37 mission as an Intercosmos Research Cosmonaut. He was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.
Intercosmos program
Tuan reached the rank of lieutenant colonel in the VPAF before eventually training to be a research cosmonaut in the joint USSR-Vietnamese Space program. On April 1, 1979, he was selected as a member of the sixth international crew for the Intercosmos program. His backup was Bùi Thanh Liêm. Tuan, along with Soviet cosmonaut Viktor Gorbatko, was launched from Baikonur Cosmodrome on July 23, 1980, on board Soyuz 37 en route to the Salyut 6 station.

During his time in orbit, Tuan performed experiments on the melting of mineral samples in microgravity. He also carried out plant experiments on azolla and photographed Vietnam from orbit for mapping purposes. Tuan was in space for 7 days, 20 hours, and 42 minutes. He completed 142 orbits, and was returned to earth on July 31, 1980.

We still not sure how Tiangong space station would benefit to humanbeing but Chinese themselves.

If it's benefit only to Chinese themselves is also justify. End of the day, we used Chinese money and technology to build these space station. All the foreign biological, metabolism and study onboard with benefit shall give credit to China for giving them the lab in space to conduct such experiment. German space agency are very keen to join the Chinese space station becos they projected their experiment still need to continue the study beyond 2020.

By 2020, maybe most western countries economy are already decaying and negative growth. This will force them to abandon ISS upgraded and only Chinese space station left.

Russia is the first member of ISS to already suffer the economic downturn with the hardest hit. I foresee more other members will run out fund. US still needs to commit herself to fighting ISIS and support Afghanistan/Iraq. It will further drain their precious fund. The only option for US , is to sacrifice 2 CVN Fleet to support its ambition space journey. That will depend on their will.

Chinese Scientist Reveals China's Space Program

China is planning to launch its own rover to Mars by 2020, finish constructing a manned space station by 2022, and test a new heavy carrier rocket by 2030, according to a top Chinese space researcher and scientist on Sunday.

China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) chairman Lei Fanpei unveiled the space program's details with state-owned Xinhua News Agency after the launch of the CBERS-4 satellite, which was co-developed with Brazil and carried by the Long March-4B rocket from the Taiyuan launch site in China.

The recent launch was the Long Market rocket family's 200th since 1970.

The feasibility study of China's first mission to Mars is completed and the country is now planning to send its own rover and orbiter to the red planet.

No official announcement regarding a Mars probe was made yet, but Lei is expecting that an orbiter will be carried by a Long March-5 carrier, still being developed, into a Martian orbit by 2020 from the country's new launch site in Hainan Province.

An actual-size replica of China's possible Mars rover was put on display at the Airshow China 2014 in November.

It will not be China's first try to reach Mars. The country attempted in 2011 using a Russian rocket, but unfortunately failed due to an accident.

Meanwhile, its space station program is currently under way. Several of the needed ground facilities, vehicles and modules are nearing completion.

According to Lei, the production and development of the significant space parts are at key phases, including the Shenzhou-11 spacecraft, Long March-7 rockets, Tianzhou-1 cargo ship, and the second Tinagong-2 space lab. Two of China's space labs and its core module will be tested in the near future.

The Hainan launch site, which will be the fourth after Xichang, Jiuquan and Taiyuan, is nearly finished and is already capable of launching spacecraft.

In this forum, American brag less than any other countries because there is nothing we can add to our achievements with words.
