China's unprecedented innovation of electromagnetic catapult rocket artillery technology will render the weapon more powerful than most conventional artillery, especially in Tibetan plateau areas, Chinese experts said on Thursday.

Han Junli, a research fellow at a Beijing-based research center under the People's Liberation Army (PLA), is leading the development of the electromagnetic rocket artillery inspired by Ma Weiming, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering dubbed "the father of the Chinese electromagnetic catapult," newspaper Science and Technology Daily reported.

Han reportedly mentioned a military incident that occurred in a border region on the Tibet plateau in which he saw the potential necessity of deploying rocket artillery.

China has large plateaus and mountainous areas where rocket artillery could destroy invading forces from hundreds of kilometers without soldiers crossing mountains, Han said, according to the report.

"Conventional artillery that uses powder may suffer from the lack of oxygen in plateaus," Song Zhongping, a military expert and TV commentator, told the Global Times on Thursday.

"Artillery that uses an electromagnetic catapult will not need to face the same problem. This makes it very valuable in warfare on plateaus."

When using electromagnetic force for the initial boost instead of an explosive powder, shells fly smoother and hit targets more accurately, Song said.

Electromagnetic rocket artillery can easily reach targets beyond 200 kilometers at a relatively lower cost than conventional artillery, Song said.

Han's research has made an important technological breakthrough and the development plan is becoming reality, the Beijing-based newspaper said.

Using an electromagnetic catapult for rocket artillery is an unprecedented innovation, Science and Technology said.

"China needs to not only develop weapon concepts that are already available to the world, but also explore new, not-yet-present weapons to lead the frontier of technology development," Song said.

Electromagnetic rocket artillery is not the only Chinese military equipment using electromagnetic technology.

Another is the electromagnetic railgun, which can fire projectiles via electromagnetic force at an incredible destructive velocity.

It is expected to be equipped on China's first domestically developed 10,000-ton class missile destroyer 055 in the future.

Another example is the electromagnetic catapult system widely expected to be used on China's future aircraft carriers.

An electromagnetic catapult will allow more fighter jets to take off in a shorter time and boost the carrier's combat capabilities.

The catapult can also launch heavier fixed-wing planes including airborne early warning and control aircraft. They can gather more battlefield information in the sky and act as an airborne command center by coordinating vessels into a stronger strike force, say experts.

Looks like it's time to liberate Andaman and Nicobar Islands from India.

. . . . .
:laughcry::omghaha: Bwa hahaha this is the best news I've read on PDF all week. Here's to New Delhi's disintegration speeding up.

Wtf is wrong with him? The exidizing agent is in the propellant for rockets or arti guns. Not dependence on external oxygen. If a scientist is this dumb, then what is the kind of product will he make?

Few points-
1. Article content and heading does not match.
2. technology is not as unique as some of the other members are wanking off to.
3. It's bizarre seeing reaction of few non-chinese to this article. It's almost as if they were getting off reading it.
4. Some members immediately brought in Dalits, which is even more bizarre.

This is fun. Take out power-plant and / or power lines and all the artilleries are down. The reason why railgun may work on a massive destroyer is because it moves and power is not needed to be carried over long distances. An impractical weapon on land, unless PLA wants to lug along huge load of capacitor-banks and generators and fuel making them easy targets for cruise missiles. What goes on ships does not goes well on land.

Looks like another striding bus in making.

Oh, it is not even under development forget deployment.

Actually quite right!
You can fire gun in space because of this. And, arty should not be taking oxygen from atmosphere otherwise they will need to keep on pumping air into the barrel and limiting the firing rate.

This is a certified troll article.

Better update the title of thread to the actual thread.

LOL what attack are you talking about? India doesn't even have anymore aircraft to carry cruise missiles since you crashed them all!

Our missile and artillery rocket strikes on Delhi is old news. What we are doing here is simply reducing the cost of our attack to negligible amounts with new technology. By lobbing railgun shells at Delhi, we can level the entire city within hours spending less money than expending a dozen cruise missiles.

Stick to topic and don't dance around like a headless chicken.

Agreed. Nothing as bizarre as IAF "claimed" to had detected J20 !

I bet Indians in PDF were wanking to that news article every single night for a good night sleep :)

If Indians are getting excited about India's achievements, it's understandable.

If Indians are getting excited about USA or Russia's achievements and waking off, then we have a problem mate.
Look at the posts above and see the distinction.
