What's new

China completes construction of medium-thrust aeroengine production line, fitted on JF-17 and FC-31

Is the jf17 using these engines or Russian ? I thought the Pakistanis preferred the Russian ones due to reliability ?

Pakistan is using Russian engine.
If you read the article this is a new development

China did not specified which engine they are referring to. So it is a guessing game.

If it is indeed WS-13E then JF-17 can now be exported to any nations without seeking prior consent approval from Russia.

They could also be referring to the new WS-19 turbofan for the J-31 or naval J-35.
Or the Minshan engines for the L-15 advance trainers.
in any case they are undoubtedly superior to the RD-93. :coffee:

If the same engine is powering j 31 and jf 17 than atleast 50 j 31s shud be procured pretty much immediately as a 400 may be an issue in near future
The J-31 (aka fc-31) is still in active development, with no time table for when it will be ready for FOC. Also, there is the problem of cost, as a 5th gen fighter costs exponentially more than a fighter from a previous generation.

It's easier said than done.

If the engine is WS19 it's brilliant news. Love to see JF17 flying with WS19.

The only limitation is, that there IS NO J-35 and the serial variant of the FC-31 called J-35 is also not ready yet. So why producing ebgines for about 50 twin-engines fighter, when the fighter itself is not ready?

As such and like I said before, IMO it is the non-afterburning variant of the WS-13 and could be a hint for serial production of the GJ-11.
