China on Wednesday called for a cease-fire in Ukraine as Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a partial military mobilization seen as an escalation in the war that began in February.

Beijing “calls for a cease-fire through negotiations and solutions that answer all parties’ security concerns,” said Wang Wenbin, spokesperson of China’s Foreign Ministry, according to the state-run Global Times newspaper.

"Every country’s reasonable security concerns should be valued, and all efforts conducive to resolving the crisis peacefully should be supported. China calls for dialogue and consultation to resolve the divergences," Wang added.

Earlier on Wednesday, Putin in a televised address to the nation, said: “I consider it necessary to support the proposal of the Defense Ministry and the General Staff to declare partial mobilization in the Russian Federation.”

The move comes a day after the announcement of referendums in Russian-controlled Ukrainian regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia to become a part of Russia this weekend.

Putin said he had already signed the relevant decree, and mobilization activities have started.

Sergei Shoigu, Russia's defense minister, said the mobilization is being carried out to control "already liberated territories" and some 300,000 reservists will be called up.

British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace, meanwhile, described Putin’s order of partial mobilization and plans to hold “illegal annexation of parts of Ukraine” as “an admission that his plan in Ukraine is failing.”

There is only this much international bad will you can take for what is clearly not even Chinese war. China had/has very good relations with both Ukraine and Russia.

If China can diffuse the situation it will solidify its position as a world leader and will replace USA totally in diplomatic arena. US is actually stoking the war here.

China can't defuse anything if both Russia and Ukraine want to escalate. But either way, China wins.

Winners from this conflict are China, USA, OPEC countries, Iran, India
Losers are Europe, Ukraine, and Russia, and to less extent rest of the world due to inflation.

If Usa and Russia nuke each other then China will also go down with it as the countries bordering Russia will also suffer greatly. Russia is definitely struggling to win the Ukrainian war. China will probably pressurise Russia and Ukraine to come to the negotiation table and declare end to the war. Ukraine will have to agree to give Crimea and Donbass region to Russia and Russia will then allow Ukraine to join EU and possibly Nato in the future. Russia will be the loosing party no matter what because they failed in Ukraine.

China very much remains neutral and deaf to the West's call to sanction Russia, as do 160 other member nations in the UN. Frankly, it's an European confrontation that was started by the US to destabilize and weaken Russia. Many Chinese companies stopped their business activities in Russia since February and we didn't see a Chinese government calling its businesses to support Russia's economic activities. China has not supplied Russia with any ammunition, weapons, or money. Indonesia, India, Pakistan, N Korea, Turkey, and most countries not categorized as West still maintain businesses as usual or even at an elevated level with Russia.

You just can't single out China's business activities as helps to Russia.
