Chinese government wants all students receive same education, no matter they are from rich families or poor families. China could be the first country that has squeezed out "more money, better education" poison, which jeopardizes education equity and strengthens class solidification. Something those countries whose governments only work for the rich people will never do.

Freedom protects the rich. Equity protects the poor. When freedom becomes a religion in the west, China government gave up a $100 billion per year business to gain equity and better future. US can not stop China for good reasons.

Fantastic work China ! All humans are equal, and hence all humans have the right to good education. But this Anglo-Saxon mafia has destroyed the world by establishing class system where rich kids of rich families with connections can have these best education, best health and best everything else.

. .
This will normalized urban middle class and village -- while enlarging gaps between urban middle class and elites.

The super rich and elites always hire top professors as one to one tutor.

Not possible to ban one to one tuition.

Hope this happens is Pakistan and so we dont ge robbed of 50,000 per month in the name of education.
And we should ban Cambridge also.

Assuming the base for all teachers are high income,
If you don't allow progression in the teaching profession you might not attract industry talent.

Ideologically a good move , economically lets wait and see.

I don't know about this. The amount of money poured into the for profit tutoring did produce results. Sure it was unfair but it also produces some truly elite talent. So unless there's a massive increase in money for public education, those elite talent might disappear.

So is there no way now for parents who want to spend money to give their kids a leg up in class?

I don't see how you can call a decrease in the education level of the populace a positive step...no matter if money is paid out or not.

Now you blame the US for this? Unreal.

I think a de-emphasis on school grades is a healthy thing, because in East Asia there is an over-emphasis on exams and school grades to the point where the Chinese themselves call 'involution'. Diminishing returns, or worse, additional input leading to a decrease in output. It's a factor which explains why the TFR is low in East Asia, because it's costly to raise a kid.

But on banning for-profit school tutoring, well, tutors aren't doing a charity. They will simply move to private 1-on-1 tutoring, which will favor the rich even more because the middle-class can't afford lessons outside of classroom now. I don't know how is that more equal.

Tutoring used to be one of the income sources for poor college students who try to make enough money to cover tuition and some living expenses. Would they be affected by this ban, too?

1, China has high quality public education system. Which guarantees students to get high quality education without any extra tutoring.
2, The purpose of education is cultiving talents and selecting talents. Real talented will be selected only if all students receive same education.

:stop:
How does this relate to entrepreneurs who aren't interested in being "picked or selected" by anyone? Not everybody in the world feels a dependency to work for others.

For those who don't know, Finland (top ranking of PISA charts) also banned private schools. One of their reasoning is that they will force the rich and powerful to improve normal schools instead of herding themselves to elite schools.

Also in Malaysia Chinese school are non-profit, but still are better than national school.
