China backs Argentina's sovereignty claim over the Malvinas islands

After that response from the Chinese , do you see why there is no point supporting them or being nice to them on this forum at least ? They are full of venom here .I was like you till some time back .

Save your good gestures for Chinese outside defence.pk
I know but still there are few members whom i follow even if they post same things over and over again like CD, because they most of the times present HARSH realities of our country. This is necessary because person on his laptop sitting in ACed room won't know what real India is.

The person in discussion, i just ignore people like them if they come to baseless attacks/points.

No need to side with anyone . Why bother the West or Argentina for some dispute that is none of our concern ? Lets build as many relations across the world and build our country .

No need to take sides , stay neutral .

no, better to earn trust than being a swing card, that's big diplomacy do.

so I think India should change its stance and support Argentina, maybe just for BRICs sake as Brazil is an influential nation and she is the leader of this S.A. group. or for this beautiful women's sake,

I think not Sir, we should rather follow the similar policy which we do regarding Iran. We should do what we are good at, diplomacy.

I'm not talking about directly supporting Argentina over Falklands, but over gradual passing of time it'll be beneficial for India to have an inclination with the latin american countries than UK, given that all of Latin American countries sides with Argentina over their claims on Falklands.

The Falklands is British territory, Argentina has no claim over it. The people on the island are British and want to remain British.

How would the Chinese like it if another country claimed some of their territory that the other country had no connection whatsoever to?

Shameless. Those British on the island are not the aborigines of the island and they are all from UK. If China moves Han Chinese to Tibet and those han want to be Chinese and claims tibet to be part of China, the west world will respond in another way. so the west logic is that they can colonize others, but China cant.

This is the major problem in the dispute, if Falklands was unhabited, no one could challenge Argentina's claim on it.

Malvinas islands are Argentina's ,Britain just shameless robbed it,it is time to give the land back to its rightful owner.

UK moved plenty of British to the island and will use a poll to show that the people on the island wants to be British not Argentineans. This method really makes sick..........

Hahaha. I love how ignorant people such as yourself parrot that same line on this forum everytime i respond with something you don't want to hear.

How about sticking to the topic instead of trying to insult me with information that isn't even true? Might be a bit hard for you.

The falklands is British land. The British settled there and claimed the land. The island wasn't claimed by anyone else before the British arrived and there was no population on it.

Malvinas islands are Argentina's ,Britain just shameless robbed it,it is time to give the land back to its rightful owner.

Why make statements that are not true and that are now backed up with evidence?

The Falklands was claimed by Britain, Argentina had no claim over it and there was no one on the island.

The people on the island are British. The rightful owner of the island is the British fullstop.

The only reason people such as yourself are taking a big issue with the situation is because you absolutely hate the West and everyone in it so you and others responding see this as an opportunity to act out your hatred.

You couldn't care less about Argentina or its people.

This is the major problem in the dispute, if Falklands was unhabited, no one could challenge Argentina's claim on it.

It was uninhabited. The British landed first and claimed it.

When the Argentine invasion took place in April 1982, the population of the islands was about 1,800, with 1,300 being born on the islands. In 1982, the Falkland Island Company owned 43% of the land on the islands and it had a monopoly on all imports and exports. The primary export was wool and sheepskins. At the time in the early 1980’s there was talk of oil reserves being found off the coast of the Falklands.

British nationals first settled on the islands in the 1830’s and the islands were claimed by Britain in 1833. Argentina had always claimed them for itself. As Britain was the world’s dominant naval force in the Nineteenth Century, Argentina would not have been able to launch and sustain an invasion of the islands then. It is doubtful that any invasion was possible until much later in the Twentieth Century. By this time, the islanders simply thought of themselves as British citizens who just happened to live 8,000 miles away. In 1976, Harold Wilson, Labour Prime Minister, was warned that Argentina was sabre rattling with regards to the Falklands. In 1977, a naval force was covertly sent to the islands in a show of strength and made a suitable impression.

Argentina says it has a right to the islands, which it calls the Malvinas, because it inherited them from the Spanish crown in the early 1800s. It has also based its claim on the islands' proximity to the South American mainland.

Britain rests its case on its long-term administration of the Falklands and on the principle of self-determination for the islanders, who are almost all of British descent.

British forces remain stationed in the Falklands
The windswept and almost-treeless territory is made up of two main islands, East Falkland and West Falkland, as well as hundreds of smaller islands and islets.

The islands are said to have been sighted in the 1500s. An English captain made the first recorded landing in 1690, and France and Britain subsequently established settlements.

Britain claimed the whole of the Falkands in 1765, while France transferred its settlement to Spain in 1767. Although Britain withdrew from its settlement in 1774 on economic grounds, it never relinquished its claim to sovereignty.

Spain abandoned its settlement in 1811 when it withdrew its garrison to the South American mainland in order to help quell colonial rebellions, leaving the islands uninhabited apart from occasional visits from British and US fishing vessels.

In 1820, newly-independent Argentina claimed sovereignty, and later founded a settlement. Britain established control over the islands in 1833 in support of its own earlier claim to sovereignty, and expelled the Argentine garrison. Most Argentine settlers left gradually thereafter. The Britons who then settled came to make up the islands' first permanent population.

Argentina continued to press its claim to the islands, which intensified in the 1960s. In 1965 the UN designated the territory as a "colonial problem" and called on both countries to negotiate a solution.

Talks, held on and off for more than 17 years, failed to resolve the issue. After months of sabre-rattling, Argentine troops set foot on the islands on 2 April 1982.

The Falkland Islanders are holding a referendum next year on who they want to be governed by.

On 12 June 2012, the Falkland Islands government announced it would hold a referendum on the political status of the Islands in the first half of 2013

Good move by China! China should sell some of the anti-ship and carrier killer missiles to Argentina. It will make the playing field even.

If they want to by some C802 and JH7A, Why not sell them,
However the Argentine has given up the use of force, they know they can never defeat the UK without the help from a world power like China.
I don't think the current China-Argentina relation is in that level.
