China and Afghanistan reached a "new important consensus" on Tuesday on combating the East Turkistan Islamic Movement as Afghanistan's new president arrived in Beijing for his first state visit since being sworn in.

Beijing also vowed to strengthen its support for reconstruction in Afghanistan, pledging assistance of 2 billion yuan ($327 million) from 2014 to 2017. It will also train 3,000 professionals in various fields for Kabul.

"President Ghani said that the new Afghan government will firmly support China to fight the ETIM," said Kong Xuanyou, director general of the Department of Asian Affairs at the Foreign Ministry.

Kong was speaking after Afghan President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai's meeting with President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People.

"The two sides reached a new important consensus on joint efforts in that regard," Kong said. He did not disclose details.

Ghani arrived in Beijing on Tuesday for a four-day visit. He was sworn in as Afghan president on September 29, replacing Hamid Karzai and marking the first peaceful transition of power in the wartorn country.

"Afghanistan will not allow any activities that threaten China's (security) on Afghan territory," Ghani said during the meeting with Xi, according to a media release.

China and Afghanistan share a border of just 76 km. Support from outside of China has been behind a spate of attacks in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region and other locations, which have left hundreds dead over the past two years. Some terrorists are based on the Afghan-Pakistani border.

Xi vowed strong support for the peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan "led by the Afghan people", aside from reconstruction efforts. Most US and NATO combat troops will pull back from Afghanistan by the end of this year.

Ghani said before leaving for Beijing, "We face common threats and this leads us to cooperate on peace and security."

Xu Tao, a researcher at the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, said security in Afghanistan has great significance for the situation in China and the whole of Central Asia.

Rustam Shah Mohmand, former Pakistani ambassador to Afghanistan told Xinhua News Agency that China can play a key role in Afghanistan's peace process due to its friendly relations with Pakistan and Iran, the major players in Afghanistan.

Ghani will also meet with Premier LiKeqiang and top legislator Zhang Dejiang during his stay and attend the Fourth Foreign Ministerial Conference of the Istanbul Process on Afghanistan on Friday.

Good news.
Finally, Afghanistani figure out one thing that sometimes so called 'friends' are dangerous than enemy. This is the first trip of Afghanistan new president.
China will be hated by western media for this. We should be aware of it.:enjoy:
We should carry on more cooperations in the border zone of China, Pakistan and Afghanistan what will do good to economy development and the people.

So the Yankees have gone home after making a complete mess of a country。

The US is the most destructive force in the world, leaving piles of debris for the countries it invaded and occupied with utter careless and evil designs。

Indeed. Look at the carnage they led to in Syria.

Bombs exploding in Iraq on a daily basis is not news anymore -- unless the death toll is not over 40.

The US legacy will never be forgotten.

.
Hope Americans are not leaving a perilous Afghanistan, like Iraq.
Hope China can help achieve the postwar reconstruction of Afghanistan, Hope the Afghan people as soon as possible out from the war.

They kicked out the Taliban from Kabul, set up and trained the ANSF, and kept the Taliban at bay. I honestly don't see what is "Evil" about that.
Now let me ask you a serious question. If you had a choice between living under the Taliban in the 90s, or living under NATO-occupied Afghanistan, which one would you pick?

Great news.
Together they can counter the Talibans from endangering regional stability.

China would be a better partner for Afghanistan than US or any other country.

It is hard to deny the backwardness of the region as a whole. But US policies have not helped to overcome these as they are not formulated to answer the real problems.

The US has only taken advantage of the problems, ignoring the deadly after-effects.

Good that US sort of left Afghanistan after making a deal with the Taliban it fought for a decade. But, this does not hide the fact that the US was instrumental in creating the extremist movement in the first place.

Taliban is expeled from Kabul, but exist everywhere now even in Pakistan. Why don't you guys get rid of Taliban and I think the conditions of Afghanistanis are not better than before.

However, China will never militarily involved in the region. When China talks about diplomacy and cooperation, it is firmly business/development-oriented.

How did the U.S. Take advantage of the problems? 5000 US soldiers and Marines dead while spending hundreds of billions of dollars fighting a war against a radical insurgent group. It's seems like that is more of a problem rather than exploiting a problem.

US and China should have teamed up to exterminate the Taliban and Al-Qaida. Improving relations between China and US. Once the Taliban was no more, they both could have put investment into Afghanistan without the insurgent threat. Everybody would have benefited. China, U.S., and the people of Afghanistan.

But now since the Taliban is still a threat, once NATO leaves they will flood into Pakistan. Some al-Qaida members will go into China too. They will fuel terrorism and suicide bombing in Xinjiang.
Al-Qaeda Declares War on China, Too | The Diplomat

Maybe this is all Unrealistic, but I firmly believe there was a missed opportunity.

Security deal= Business and development.
