China a bigger threat than Pakistan: IAF chief

NEW DELHI, May 24, 2009 (Hindustan Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Taking China's dramatic military expansion seriously, the Indian Air Force chief has said China poses a more real and potent threat to India than Pakistan, which remains caught in a vortex of conflict and instability.

Talking to HT, Air Chief Marshal Fali Homi Major said India was rapidly upgrading its fighter bases in the country's northeast to boost its military deterrence against China.

"China is a totally different ballgame compared to Pakistan," the air chief said. "Pakistan is not as a concern as China is. We know very little about the actual capabilities of China, their combat edge or how professional their military is...they are certainly a greater threat." The comments are bound to lend urgency to the new government's China agenda and the need to understand the security implications of the rapidly modernising Chinese military.

The Chinese air force is ridding itself of obsolete platforms from the 1960s such as the J-6 and J-7 (equivalent to MiG-19s and MiG-21s). The People's Liberation Army Air Force is pushing full steam ahead with the induction of first-rate fighter jets such as Sukhoi-30s, JF-17 Thunder light combat aircraft, J-10 strike fighters, airborne early warning aircraft and midair refuellers to expand the operating radius of its fighter jets.

"The way China is growing, it definitely has the capability. But we neither put China on a pedestal and say it will chew us up nor lose sight of the fact that they have (acquired) huge capabilities. We maintain a deterrant level of force against them, and currently are focusing on matching their level.," Major said.

Reign in those horses. This is no literature comprehension, the meaning is pretty straight forward, no need to indulge in 'puzzle out the hidden meaning'.

China bigger threat than Pakistan: India

NEW DELHI: India faces a greater threat from China than Pakistan because New Delhi knows little about Beijing’s combat capabilities, India Air Force (IAF) Air Chief Marshal Fali Homi Major told a newspaper in an interview published on Sunday. China has a standing army almost three times the size of Pakistan’s, according to official figures and defence industry estimates, but it is the lack of knowledge about China’s military that concerned Major. “China is a totally different ballgame compared to Pakistan,” the air chief said. “We know very little about the actual capabilities of China, their combat edge or how professional their military is, they are certainly a greater threat,” the air chief said. daily times monitor

Indians liked to be compared with China and this is why these statements come out. Fact remains that India and China will never collide. Next phase of cold war will still keep Pakistan and India against each other. This time India will be on the US side and Pakistan will be on the Chinese side.

PAF will prove to be more than a threat, insha-Allah.

Indians are obsessed with China...

Well, Americans are obsessed with Cubans, North Koreans. Russians are obsessed with Georgians, Pakistanis are obsessed with India and Afghanistan, Mongolians are obsessed with Chinese, Singaporeans are obsessed with Thai, Balkans are obsessed with each other, Zimbabweans[spelling] are obsessed with Ugandians,Indonesians are obsessed with Phillippines, Venenzualans are obsessed with Columbians. All this in the post cold war era, I am not even gonna mention 'obsessions' into history.

Its all love, brother. :smokin:
