If there is no religion, then human beings will find other excuses to kill others and themselves.

Child soldiers is not a new phenomenon.

It is a very similar strategy they adopt which resembles to Hashashins.

I agree with most of what you are saying.

But there are strong exceptions to the rule - Yes I think electing Modi as PM has moderated him - but the larger questions is how on earth did a Hindu fanatic get elected in such a diverse country.



I guess the point I forgot to make is that bad things happen when humanity gets stripped from a culture.

there are many reason why people vote a particular party, very rarely they agree wholesale with the agenda of the party, it depends on prevailing mood and what people think is most important.. sometimes it can swing in a direction you and me do not like, but usually we benefit from it being in open. Its unlikely power has moderated Modi, but very likely that once they start governing, the whole group will have to face reality which will force them towards moderation. BJP was in power before too, before losing to congress.
Let me give example of UK, the prevailing mood is anti immigrant, has been like that for quite long. No mainstream party represent that thought, which gave rise to BNP, a far right party. However in this election, another party UKIP with slightly more credibility pushed for similar agenda, mainstream parties started having their own 'immigration is bad' policy. To you it might look like UK has decisively voted rightwing conservatives but two things are important in this election. Conservatives won because they seemed to have credible economic plan(overriding concern this time, not anti immigration as such) and BNP were wiped out.
Overall I think its better that people talk about immigrants openly, than talk secretly and support fascist parties like BNP because they have nowhere to go to express their views.

I don't think a comparison of Modi ji and conservatives is really fair -- again I agree with what you have said.

I'm just stating that a procedural democracy is not necessarily a robust instrument - another case in point is Putin bahi.

I am not comparing(, the conservatives of UK are liberals of India, our center grounds are different), am just saying overall its for greater good. Besides, India is mostly conservative country with liberal elite on top, its rebalancing of power. May be you shoud revisit your idea of India.

Russia has severe lack of democracy, it way less democratic than pakistan. But then pakistan has been in the game(on and off) longer and got much more experience. I am against such procedural sham democracy, thats the precise point I am making.
Having said that, there is deficit of democracy in pakistan too(although not as bad as russia or some central asian countries)
Why should only landlords/rich be in power in pakistan and not reflect the will of vast conservative masses? It frustrates people and breeds extremism.

Are you familiar with Thomas Schelling's work? It's tangentially related to our discussion, see here - but in general my point is Democracies by themselves can produce pretty strange results. The points I'm trying to make are more additive and not subtractive to what you are saying.

Fair point -- but in essence that was my point too -- Science has it's culprits Dr. Mengele being one recent monster.

My point was -- which is admittedly a layperson's view of things as I have not studied in the reasons behind this dark side of human nature -- the arguments of incorrect mullah versus correct sandhu is fundamentally incorrect.

The only thing that could possibly matter is an innate sense of humanity -- which I suspect evolution has endowed us and one that needs to be cultivated as a fundamental virtue at the societal level.

It is the recitation of poetry sung in a haunting melodious manner glorifying death---mixed with hashish and opium you can have any sane person shaken up for a moment----and for young children----young boys---young vulnerable minds---it is mesmerizing and hypnotic---it creates an illusion which can be prolonged by the presence of handsome bearded men with beautiful eyes nurturing and encouraging you in the trance----a slow and smooth but a deadly process.

From what i have observed , they usually choose 'slow', dumb boys for suicide bombing.......easy and quickly to be manipulated and prepared, while the intelligent ones would begin questioning the right and wrong aspect of it.

The suicide bomber who blew up 106 people in my area , was a young boy.......that badbakht targeted a volleyball match in his village, killing his own kin and kith

Yea some thing like that, though they dont use hashish...........the boys getting brainwashed are the type who have never watched TV, doesnt know much about outside world , are "kunwain key maindak"..... The stories of Jannat, its beauty and its pleasures are told to them again and again, that their every wish will be fulfilled there.....these boys are dirt poor and they yearn for jannat. So when "ticket" is given to them, when an apparent short cut is available, they nod to blow themselves up any where at any one.......they are told that if some one innocent dies in his bomb blast, he/she will also fly towards Jannat along with him
