Veteran Bollywood actor Anupam Kher has backed noted lyricist Javed Akhtar's passionate call for sayingBharat Mata Ki Jai, saying that the slogan should be the only definition of nationalism for Indians.

"The only definition of NATIONALISM for Bharatwasis should be "Bharat Mata Ki Jai". Rest all are escape routes.," Kher tweeted earlier on Wednesday.

Akhtar had on Wednesdayslammed All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi in the Rajya Sabhaover his remark that he would not chantBharatmatakijaibecause the Constitution does not ask him to do so.

"The Constitution even does not ask him to wear sherwani and topi (cap). I don't care to know whether sayingBharatmatakijaiis my duty or not, it is my right." Akhar said after which he proceeded to chantBharatmatakijaiseveral times.

Condemning right-wing extremists also who say that 'Muslims should go to Pakistan', he added that these days 'fringe' elements are rising and emphasised the need to protect secularism to save democracy and the Constitution.

Meanwhile, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed against Owaisi in Allahbad High Court over his speech in which he said that he will not chantBharat Mata ki Jai.

"I don't chant that slogan. What are you going to do Bhagwat sahab?"Owaisi said at a public rally in Latur. "I won't utter that (slogan) even if you put a knife on my throat. Nowhere has it been mentioned in the Constitution that one should sayBharat Mata ki Jai," he added.

The RSS chief had earlier said the new generation needs to be taught to chant slogans hailing mother India.

"Now, the time has come when we have to tell the new generation to chantBharat Mata Ki Jai. It should be real, spontaneous and part of all-round development of the youth," he said.

Bhagwat's comments came against the backdrop of the row over alleged anti-India sloganeering in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus on February 9.

Imagine a scenario where Hindu MP's come and say since they don't believe in prophets of Islam or Christianity, they are not going to address these folks as prophets and will address them with their names.....

First, bharata mata is not a religious hindu deity to tie her with a prophet. Even if someone dont say before media, everyone knows that christian, Muslim or hindu don't worship others god, because they don't believe in other religion.

I don't know how bharat mata came into the religious prism. Who started this controversy? Its Mohan baghwat who claimed young people should be taught, to chant slogans in support of the country, then owaisi hit back.

Completely wrong statement. How can chanting this slogan be only definition of Nationalism? So one can chant it and indulge in corruption? And one who doesnt chant it are not nationalist?

I condemn Owaisi and RSS for giving this line an communal color. The Bharat Mata holds an Tri colour, and Owaisi and Muslim groups by issueing an Fatwa, are trying to create an new Vande Mataram. 50 years down the line, some groups even may declare Fatwa on nationalism. A dangerous trend to be nipped in the bud.

Do you want me to quote the numerous muslims and christians in India who keep quoting their beliefs on prophets?
Imagine if every Hindu starts commenting on prophets NOT being prophets.

Everyone can propagate their beliefs. The idea of tolerance is accepting others beliefs.
At least this is what I keep hearing from sickuklar brigade.

So, why is Mohan Baghwat's belief so ridiculous when compared to let's say a muslim or christian who believes only their prophets are gods and we Hindus must grin and bear it?
Next time when ever any muslim leader say they believe in only one god and prophet, can we make a huge cry about that and make issue?
