The islands in question were disputed between French indochina and the Republic of China (Taiwan) when Cloma decided to stick his nose in and arbitrarily claim the islands for himself. Your country butted into a bilateral dispute.

And China and Vietnam has also claims on those islands. Do these countries also has a say in YOUR your country's name? Learn2Logic

Your government also invited American military personnel to participate in the war against the Moros (whom they claim are their own people) in "Operation Enduring Freedom – Philippines". That means MNLF can invite whatever foreigners they want since you invited America. MNLF and MILF have the guns and the political recognition.

Do you mean this? h ttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Enduring_Freedom_-_Philippines
To participate in a war against terrorist groups like Abu Sayyaf and Jemaah Islamiyah? These people ARE. are terrorist. Now you have sympathy to these terrorist group that may or may not have moro members? It doesn't matter if they have moros in their rank. They're still terrorist.

If MILF and MNLF aren't supported by a majority of armed Moros in Mindanao and Sulu, why is your government forced to listen to their demands and sign deals with them? Your own government recognizes their presence and power in the region.

I said civilians sector, not the armed sector. They recognize their presence because they *** handed those separatist group before. That Bangsamoro agreement is a WIN-WIN situation for both parties.

And WHY do YOU even CARE about what WE name OUR NATION?
YOU are NOT a MORO and YOU are NOT a FILIPINO.

You've gone OFF-TOPIC in YOUR own TOPIC, AGAIN

If the MNLF has got its "@$$ handed" to it, why is Misuari still running around with his armed men and provoking the Philippines government and threatening to derail peace talks by declaring independence? Why have his armed men been involved in several clashes for the past decade and the Philippines government cannot do anything against him? The Philippine government accused Misauri's military commanders in the MNLF of having links to al qaeda and supporting Abu Sayyaf, but he and his men still have all their weapons and are walking freely around Sulu. Sounds more like that the Philippines military cannot do anything against him.

Your own government says that Misauri managed to direct his fighters even while in prison.

The dispute between Taiwan and Vietnam (formerely French indochina) was a bilateral dispute with competing claims, the Phillippines just budged its nose in out of thin air, and lied in order to insert itself into the dispute. That's like France suddenly claiming the Falklands as part of France out of thin air, with no evidence to support them, even though its only disputed between Argentina and Britain.

China did have a say in Vietnam's name. The Vietnamese Emperor Gialong wanted to call his country Nam Viet and asked permission from the Emperor of China. China refused his request and forced the Vietnamese to rename their country as "Vietnam". Vietnam formerly called itself "Dai Viet", the modern name 'Vietnam" is from China.

Vietnam and the Chinese Model

So what can i do? Chinese members are here to talk about their country.

Well, that funny guy attempted to give people a wrong impression that Sanskrit invented the name China, but what he quoted indicates that it was in fact SansKrit that plagiarized the name from Qin Dynasty of China.

Maybe the Chinese invented the Sanscript, per his logic?

See some of his original post:

...

The name China originated from the Sanskrit name Cina. Persian took it from Indians as Chin and it became China in Europe.

China -- Ancient History Encyclopedia

BTW, the Chinese internally call their country Zhongguo, unlike some other people call their country Philippine or India internally.

There is a proposal within China to change the contry's name internationally to Zhongguo and the Chinese (people) to Zhongguo Ren and Chinese (language) to Zhongguo Hua.

Good grief, you're really an asinine idiot aren't you?
MILF=/=MNLF=/=BIFF. That wasn't so hard wasn't it? And if you're wondering why the philippine government didn't do anything, it's because you didn't fuckin see it on philippine televison and read it on philippine newspaper.

Don't tell me you're being sympathetic on a separatist group that has ties with terrorist group that fights for it's "freedom" by bombing, killing, kidnapping their OWN people?

The MILF denies ties with terrorist group Jemaah Islamiyah, although Jemaah Islamiyah is considered to have provided them with training facilities in areas they control.[14][15] The MILF also continues to deny connections with Al-Qaeda, though it has admitted to sending around 600 volunteers to Al-Qaeda training camps in Afghanistan and that Osama Bin Laden sent money to the Philippines

Are you literally incapable of rational thought? All your ramblings in this quote are still irrelevant. The topic is about renaming a nation.

You just wrote that China was called Zhongguo. Ancient Indian epic poem Mahabharat mentions China as Cina. Do you have any problem if the origin of the name China can be traced to India.

Indians call their country internally as 'Bharat', Republic of India is called 'Bharat Ganrajya' and Indian people are referred as Bharatiya.

Last time I checked, Misuari was still free and commanding armed fighters and so are the MILF leaders.

China renamed Vietnam when it was independent, not when China ruled Vietnam. When China ruled Vietnam it was called Jiaozhi or Annan.

Many Latin American countries threw off the names the Spanish gave them. The Mexicans got rid of the name "New Spain" and used Mexico, a native Aztec word, to name their country.

New Spain - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Viceroyalty of Rio de la Plata was renamed into Uruguay (an indigenous name), and Bolivia (named after Simon de Bolivar, the hero who liberated Latin America from the Spanish)

Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mexico came under Spanish rule earlier than the Philippines - since 1521 and Bolivia was colonized by Spain before the Philippenes. These countries both have Spanish as their majority and official languages. Pure blood natives are a minority and native languages are also in the minority in Mexico. Mexico has a majority Spanish mixed mestizo and pure Creole Spanish population who outnumber the natives. Bolivia is majority natives at 55% and the rest of the 45% are Mestizos or pure white Spanish, and both are heavily Catholic and hispanicized

In the Philippines, Spanish is a minority language, native languages are official and natives outnumber Spanish mestizos and Spaniards. If those Latin American countries can throw out their colonial names then the Philippines can too.

Its part of their identity. They prefer the name Philippines. Hence it stays.

End of debate.

The description of history in the Rig Veda is suggestive of the ascendancy of the Puru tribe (one amongst the five tribes of Nahusa, the others being Yadu, Turvasa, Anu and Druhyu) initially and later the Bharatas.

Rig Vedic explanation of geography of Bharat with regard to the names of various places mentioned, more or less pertains to the area from Uttar Pradesh in the east to Afghanistan (mentioned only once in Rig Veda) in the west, the easternmost river mentioned in the text being the Ganga, and the westernmost being the western tributaries of the Indus.

The places named directly or indirectly in the Rig Veda can be classified into five basic geographical regions, from west to east, on the basis of present-day terminology: Afghanistan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Amongst these, Uttar Pradesh of the present-day is more or less equivalent to the land known in ancient literature as Aryavarta or Madhyadesa. Neither the word Aryavarta, nor the word Madhyadesa, is found in the Rig Veda. Nor is there any direct reference in the hymns to any place in Uttar Pradesh. But, the hymns IX.96 and X.179.2 composed by a Bharata Rishi who attributed his compositions to his remote ancestor, Pratardana present an important mention. Pratardana was a king of KASI, which is in eastern Uttar Pradesh. This can only mean that the Bharata Kings of the early period of the Rig Veda were Kings of KASI and, in the light of the other information in the Rig Veda, the land of the Bharatas extended from KASI in the east to Kurukshetra in the west. (This description has been given by Shrikant G. Talageri in his historical analysis of Rig Veda.)

This means that, essentially Uttar Pradesh is what Bharat is referred to in the primary Vedic and Hindu scripture Rig Veda and not the whole of India from north to South.

The importance of river Sarasvati in Rig Veda is much more than river Indus, as it is worshipped as one of the Three Great Goddesses in the Aprisuktas of all the ten families of composers (being named in nine of them and implied in the tenth). The Indus contrarily finds no place in these Aprisuktas. The contrast between the overwhelming importance of Sarasvati and the relative unimportance of Indus is striking – therefore the importance of identification of Sarasvati as Ghagar-Hakra for the Indians, which has been wrongly claimed as Sarasvati and has also been scientifically proven to be wrong assumption.

The evidence of the rivers in the Rig Veda is therefore also unanimous in identifying the area to the east of the Sarasvati as the original homeland of the Bharatas.

It may also be noted that all the pilgrim-centres of Hinduism are located to the east of Haryana. There is no Hindu pilgrim centre worthy of particular note in the Punjab or the northwest India. And this also puts in extreme doubt, the Indian claim that Indus Valley Civilization is Indian civilization, which according to even Rig Vedic explanation is a wrong claim.

If you don't want Western colonial names then stop using Western colonial languages like English, Spanish and French, stop wearing designer Western clothes, stop eating Mac Donald's and drinking Coca Cola, stop watching Hollywood films...

In the United States they still use British colonial names and in Britain they still use the Roman name 'Britannia' when Britain was part of the Roman Empire.

So, if Western countries don't care about their 'colonial' history, why should we?

Stop being a toady and a bootlicker to the west.

By the same argument those countries you mentioned should set aside their Spanish language since it is also a remnant of their colonization by Spain. So what's the difference between the Philippines who retained its Spanish given name but shed its use of the Spanish language and those Latin American countries who shed their Spanish given name but retained Spanish as their majority language?
We'd rather retain the name than replace it. Changing the name will not garner support from the majority of Filipinos. Just trying to change one letter from "Pilipinas" (what we call the Philippines in the native language) to "Filipinas" created a big fuss among us Pinoys recently, what more if we change it to a completely different name.
One reason why we'd rather not touch the name is because Filipinos are not as emotional as the rest of Asians. Yes, the Spain, America and Japan ravaged our country and created atrocities among our people in the past but we did not retain the hatred and we have already moved on. The people would rather want their leaders to focus on eradication of poverty and improvement of lives than to dwell in the past and unnecessarily change the name of the country we have grown accustomed to for many centuries.

Spanish was kept in those countries because it served as a useful, impartial lingua franca among the different native languages and the majority of mestizos and creoles spoke it. Thats also the case in Papua New Guinea with the English language, I have no objection to that.

in the Philippines Tagalog was chosen instead by you guys, before Spanish colonization, Malay was the lingua franca.

Laguna Copperplate Inscription - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

And speaking of that, Malay is more useful as a lingua franca in the Philippines. Both the official languages of Malaysia and Indonesia are variants of the Malay language and it was the lingua franca and the language of trade in the region. It has a strong history in the region and people often spoke both Malay along with their native language.

But as for poverty eradication, your government has done little in that regard. Indonesia implemented a family planning program to lower their ferility rates and so did Thailand. Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia all have lower fertility rates than the Philippines. But in your country the Catholic Church blocked family planning, and your government dumped the excess population of Christian Visayans onto Mindanao and they now outnumber the native Moros and Lumads. Why did your country not implement a family planning program- instead of sending Christian Visayan settlers onto Mindanao?
