Cessna Aircraft Co to provide 2 new Cessna 208B and 4 new Cessna T-206H aircraft to Pakistan

Good acquisition. We need to work on our STOL and XTOL transport capabilities, would strengthen our capacity to operate in FATA for sure, but also Northern Areas and Kashmir.

Will need to be careful with building up an overly diverse fleet though. An XTOL (extreme take-off and landing) version of the CN-235 wouldn't be a bad idea to add, down the line. Airbus is even looking to add air-to-air refuelling probes on the CN-235/295, enabling them to refuel helicopters and other slow moving aircraft.

Son----helicopter does not have a 1000 miles flight range. Also helicopters are expensive to maintain as compared to a cessna.

The price tag of 14 million is too high----. The grand caravan EX are 2.5 mil a piece---which is 5 million----the other 4 a 500 thousand a piece---which puts it a 2 million---modifications at 2 million dollars for all six aircraft----.

That puts it a 9 million dollars---flight training for the pilot should be free and maintenance a minimal 100k for technician---.

The aircraft may have a 1-3 years warranty as well----.

Looks like there is a close to 4 million dollars +- kick back involved in this deal.

Pilot training should be free---maintenance tech---a little bit----and there is warranty for a certain time as well on a new aircraft----so I put 2 million for that as well.

They should have gone for Helicopter Air Ambulance

instead that can land next to an air crash that a fixed wing cannot

The 206 and 208 aren't STOL aircraft nor do they climb well in heat or altitude.

On a ISA+10 day, they will struggle to achieve 900fpm. If you want STOL performance, you need to look at RR250 conversions or pilatus offerings. But then you need more money for those.

Pakistan is to receive six new medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) aircraft from the United States, under a contract announced by the US Department of Defense (DoD) on 21 April.

The contract, which was awarded the day prior to the announcement, will see Cessna Aircraft Company provide and support two Cessna 208B Grand Caravan EX and four Cessna T206H Stationair aircraft that have been modified for aeromedical evacuation.

A 24-month sustainment package consisting of spares, tooling, and support equipment will be provided for each aircraft, and pilot and maintainer training will also be provided for the Pakistan Army.

Valued at USD14.09 million, the contract is scheduled to be complete by 30 December 2016.


First shown at the Paris Airshow in 2015, the Grand Caravan EX is touted for surveillance, air ambulance, paratrooper, amphibious operations, surveillance and training; and is equipped with a surveillance console, medical stretcher, lightweight seats and stowable utility seat. It has an optional range of internal configurations, as well as structural provision for two underwing hardpoints. The Grand Caravan EX has a main cabin that fits up to 14 people in a standard configuration; a useful load of 1,593 kg; a maximum cruise speed of 185 kt; and a range of 912 n miles.

The T206H Stationair is much smaller than the Grand Caravan EX, fitting 6 people in a standard configuration; a useful load of 581 kg; a maximum cruise speed of 164 kt; and a range of 703 n miles.

Pakistan orders six Cessna MEDEVAC aircraft



The Pakistan Armed Forces have ordered six Cessna-built aircraft for medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) missions.

Under a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) contract, the U.S. Air Force awarded Cessna Aircraft a $14.1 million U.S. sale to provide six aircraft specially equipped for medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) to Pakistan.

The contract includes two Cessna 208B Grand Caravan EX, four Cessna T206H Stationair aircraft, and the requisite maintenance and logistical support infrastructure. Both aircraft types will be modified to enable the Pakistani military to airlift critically injured personnel to fully-equipped hospitals in short order.

Touted as “the world’s ultimate utility vehicle” by Cessna Aircraft, the 208B Grand Caravan EX is capable of carrying as many as 14 people in its cabin (when in standard configuration). It is designed to operate from ill-prepared runways with the ability to carry a relatively heavy payload. As a singe engine design, the Grand Caravan EX is also marketed as being a cost-effective solution.

Based on the layout presented by Cessna Aircraft, the Grand Caravan EX should be capable of carrying at least two stretchers in its MEDEVAC configuration. With a complete airlift network – i.e. helicopters to extract a critically injured person from the field, and quickly ferry them to an airfield (prepared or rough) – the Grand Caravan EX could be used to great effect in reducing fatalities.

Besides MEDEVAC for military personnel engaged in combat (such as those engaged in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas and Northern Areas), the Grand Caravan EX could also be utilized to strengthen Pakistan’s domestic humanitarian relief capacity. Having absorbed the infrastructure to operate this type, it will be interesting to see if Pakistan picks up general cargo and potentially even intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) versions of the Grand Caravan EX.

The Grand Caravan EX’s take-off and landing distance is 658 metres and 560 metres, respectively. This makes this particular type incapable of short take-off and landing (STOL – which requires that an aircraft take-off and land within 450 metres). It will depend on which airstrips Pakistan plans to operate these aircraft from, it is likely that sufficiently able airstrips are available near what the Army and Air Force believe to be current combat and/or potential disaster zones.

Pakistan will also bank on the Cessna T206H Stationair, of which Pakistan will procure four. Granted, these are much smaller, capable of carrying a maximum of six individuals in standard configuration.

Unfortunately, the Stationair’s take-off distance is still a bit long (at 530 metres), but its landing distance is well within 450 metres. Although Cessna does not provide specifics into how MEDEVAC would work with the aircraft, it is likely that the Stationair could at least take on one stretcher. Like the Grand Caravan EX, it seems the Stationair can be configured for different mission roles, including ISR.

It has not been mentioned in the FMS contract, but it would be interesting if Pakistan one day opts for the amphibian variant of the Grand Caravan EX. The amphibian configuration would enable the aircraft to take-off and land on water, which could be interesting along Pakistan’s rivers and lakes, especially in the Northern Areas. Alternatively, the Stationair search and rescue configuration could be another option.
