The bottom line is why waste 100m $$ missile to bring down a fighter which costs 70m $$. ?
why waste time on akash mk2 why not use time and money to convert aad and pad into SAMs
That is eventually going to happen, There were plans that Astra will be a SAM as well...
On 27 March the vertical launch of the missile was carried out suggesting the use of the missile as a long range surface to air missile for the Indian Navy to arm its destroyers and frigates and for the Indian Air Force.
NO I'm not joking. we need long range SAMs having ranges of 150 to 200km)like china have (perhaps hq-9 or hq-19 with125km range but that are copies of s-300)these are installed on their newest destroyers also
can you provide link for aad and pad were SAMs (except Wikipedia)
I think you didn't like my joke.Read my lines carefully dude ! What i said is, If a low cost missile can SMASH the aircraft, why the hell you need this "more damage" ?
Not enough info is there on Ashvin, but whatever is there, its saying that it will be comprising of AAD missiles. They won't be developing a whole new missile based on AAD's guidance system and avionics. But if you have any such information please do share with us afterall we are here for this only. And when they say based on AAD, they mean its guidance system and avionics etc. not the whole missile.
The kinetic energy required to smash an IRBM is exponential times the energy required to bring down fighter jets. So akash will logically be less powerful than the PAD/AADs.

is a single missile costs $100 million ? i don't think so
No missile costs $100 million. I remember read some where (most probably Dr. Saraswat's interview) that single AAD costs $ 2 million and they are establishing production capacity of 100 missiles per year.
