CAS Mujahid Anwar: Whatever capabilities the IAF acquires, PAF will match it

This statement carries the assumption that JF-17 can match the Rafale in avionics, radar and EW capabilities.

JF-17 was never designed to match the Rafale or any other Aircraft in terms of Avionics, Radar or EW (1 on 1). The purpose of the JF-17 is to work in tandem with other Assets of PAF to negate the advantages the Rafale has. The biggest advantage the JF-17 has is that it is data-linked to PAF's force multipliers, which propels JF-17's capabilities many folds.

only practical option is Typhoon which is said to be even more capable in A2A than Rafale...
Rest any current chinese fighter beside J-20 wont do...
And PAF already must be exposed to Saudi Typhoons ... if Pakistan can allocate around 4 Billion USD for this purchase of around 20... it should be more than sufficient for taking care of Rafale in IAF...

Not by a long shot, this is certainly what European marketers would like us to believe but this is not the case. While the Rafale is no doubt a very capable platform, especially the SPECTRA is incredible impressive, it is not the end of the world. I remember hearing the same thing about the SU30MKI, that is the Raptor of South Asia and is simply untouchable because of its PESA radars and can act like a Mini AWAC bla bla bla. We all know how that turned out when it was put in an actual combat scenario.

PAF is following the right strategy, and that is investing in force multipliers to negate the advantage of an individual platform. Also, keep in mind that the Chinese are investing far more into R&D tech than the French or the Indians are. Just look how far the Chinese Aviation Industry has come in the last 20 years.

But supersonic CM 400AKG has a ballistic trajectory and easy to intercept. Problem lies in detection and interception. Imagine a scenario where MKIs launch ALCM Brahmos and they hit our place having an importance. Since no capable air defense is there to intercept Supersonic ALCM from our side, they hit their targets and we plan the similar attack. We use RA'AD IIs on our Mirages/Thunders and within our boundary release the ALCM. IAF AWACs detects the ALCM and sends the signals to the air defense. Imagine the target is Mumbai or Dehli the air defense which includes NASAM II and S400 (as they would be gaurding important strategic locations) are alerted through AWAC and the ALCM is detected due to alertness and is intercept quickly. How is this not possible?

First of all, Brahmos is a supersonic missile with an extremely high IR simply because of the speed it travels at, and its inability to hug the terrain. PAF when fully alert will immediately detect the launch of Brahmos and would immediately launch counter measures against a missile that is giving out IR signature of a freaking building.

There is a reason why the US or even Russia did not go for supersonic missiles in their arsenal simply because of the IR it creates. This is simple physics. So lets not make Brahmos into something its not, and not fall for the usual propaganda machine. I read the same that the SU30MKI was God's gift to the Earth and was simply invincible. We all know how that turned out.

Don't worry sir these low-lifes never catch a break, It's again the redux of Rodeo Pony aka Su-30MKI, remember those good old days when literally even a normal thread on Pakistan's GDP would end up with Indians gloating the range of Bars radar, in SU-30 and it's supermaneuverability disco moves . Recount the whole deal; the Raptor of the east, the seventh wonder of the world. Even in an obituary thread Indians wouldn't shy away from gloating an ode to the Goliath R-77 , 37 missiles. The Indians had literally turned it into a unicorn ....Outcome the 27 Feb and safradors vanished like a fart in the wind

Thank You so much for bringing that up

And LOL on the highlighted, the super COBRA move.

Plus the fan boys won't tell you is that brahmos has lower range in Lo-Lo mode (than the stated one).

If it uses lo-high-lo mode then it would be detected earlier.

Both modes have own trade offs.

To overcome India in the EW/SIGINT domain PAF can look into the following Turkish systems developed or at various stages of development:

ASELSAN EW pod.

http://www.f-16.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=52506

ASELSAN has released details of its new EW Pod designed for the F-16. A derivative is planned to be used in the TAI/BaE Systems TF-X program.

ASELSAN claims it can intercept and jam and/or deceive hostile enemy radar emitters by analyzing multi-target signals and automatically/manually generating an appropriate response.

The system uses similar technology to that used in ASELSAN's Land based KORAL Electronic Warfare system it introduced last year.

The tweet is left ambiguous for a reason. The response will be on multiple fronts, and not just acquiring new missiles and aircraft. Degrading the enemy through various EW mechanisms is also a way to negate their effectiveness and advantage.

In the short term, Pakistan could potentially choose to buy say 14-18 new Block 70 and only upgrade its 18 block 52 to the similar standard. It can then re-use the radar and other electronic equipment from the block 52s to update the non-MLU block 15ADFs jets that we acquired from Jordan. This is also similar to what Greece is doing. It is only upgrading its latest block 52/52+ aircraft while using their equipment to upgrade the older versions in its fleet.

Given that F-16s will be in the PAF for at least another 30+ years, they will definitely get upgraded at least once, if not twice down the line. Currently, Pakistan can afford to wait a little bit and let other nations buy/upgrade to the new block 70 standard as it might not only help with the cost, given the economies of scale, once we field an alternate source of AESA radar and India has acquired similar capability via the Rafale and upgraded Su-30s, any US concerns will basically be put aside (since they abhor giving Pakistan any leg up viz-a-viz India).

What counter measures do you have against Brahmos once you have detected it.

Multiple missiles aimed at your home address as well as at Modi's home address. Figure it out. While you guys think one weapon system against another we think of the big picture. Thats what happened on February 27th. You launched some missiles that killed a few trees and a crow. We responded with an integrated attack against multiple targets and deliberately moved the missiles away from the potential targets. Evidence is public. You lost two jets and and a chopper. The last one from fratricide. Go back into history and look at your aviation losses......

Pakistan has options. JF-17 BLK 3 will be one option, the other would be upgraded F-16's (although risky, but available on the short term) and whatever project Azm evolves into. I don't think the Typhoon is an option for us, too many political strings.
I think PAF is betting on upgrading block 52 with block 70 and AMRAAM Ds. This is the only logical short term option.
