Cartosat-II Image of New Delhi

.
Cartosat 2A has a resolution of less than 1 metre.

Does anyone here know the relationship between resolution and scale? I can't remember my optics lessons:undecided:

.
More Cartosat Pics (These are from the January launch):

Bangalore:

Perth, Australia

Hyderabad

If this is the highest resolution of the image then it wouldn't help much in monitoring the border. Good to track down the mass movement of troops but not so effective against the sneekers.

These are civilian satellites.
Used for urban planning (??), monitoring forest cover, water bodies, mapping, etc. etc. Basically Remote Sensing.

Also. these aren't max-resolution. Max res is 1 metre or less.

A correction:

Only the first (Delhi) Image is from Cartosat 2A.
The remaining images are from the older Cartosat II, launched in Jan 2008

I'm not really sure how effective satellites are when it comes to constant border vigil. Heck even the USA with all it's sophisticated space assets can't stop border jumpers.

For the BSF, satellite feeds will only be a secondary source of input. The primary duty will have to be done with the assistance of UAVs and terrestrial installations with biometric sensors.

There is no relation!

Resolution is the smallest distance at which you can differentiate the features.

Scale is well SCALE. A scale of 1:7000 means: I mm on the picture is 7 m on the ground. :)

You're right...there's no relation.

Though, maximum magnification will depend on resolution...I guess that's what I meant.

I agree with you.. It is absolutely impossible to man a whole border. But Kashmir is a mountainous terrain & whatever I've learned is that it is not possible to breach the border from just anywhere. Incursion can happen only through certain porous channels. So maybe, spy satellites can be useful in surveillance of those places where the likely incursion can happen.
