Car rams into Police van on the Champs-Elysées

THE world famous Champs-Élysées shopping district has been evacuated after a man rammed a police van – with reports that shots have been fired by cops.

This is the second major incident at the bustling tourist spot in the past two months.

Paris police say security operation underway in Champs-Elysees shopping district. Armed French police have sealed off the area.

What happened at the Champs Elysees?

The Champs-Élysées shopping district has been evacuated after a large EXPLOSION was reportedly heard near the Paris landmark.

There have been reports of a car smashing into a police van and social media users say they heard shots being fired.

One male suspect has reportedly been arrested and no injuries have been confirmed.

Paris authorities say a suspected attacker has been “downed” by brave French officers, Sky News reports.

AFP has reported that witnesses say the suspect’s car “exploded” on impact with the van and that the driver was “armed.”

Members of the public were told to avoid the area after a driver crashed his Renault Megane into a van carrying gendarmes (French military police) at around 15:40. The driver's vehicle then exploded into flames. Police say there was a gas canister inside the car.

Police sources have told French media they believe the act was deliberate and anti-terrorist police have been called in to take charge of the investigation.

There were no casualties reported and no police officer or member of the public was injured.

However Pierre-Henry Brandet a spokesman for Interior Ministry said the driver, who was pulled from his car by police, appeared to have died, but it could not be confirmed officially due to the ongoing security operation.

Police sources had previously said the driver was "unconscious on the ground". Police have also said he was armed with a gun and a knife.

Thankfully no Gendames or members of the public have been injured. The attacker is confirmed dead. The Home Minister confirmed it was an attempted terror attack. According to Police,there were gas canisters in the cars. Weapons have also been found in it including pistols and a kalachnikov.

We probably avoided the worst yesterday. Thankfully,no Gendarmes or members of the public were injured. Only the attacker bit the dust.

How come it's easier for these terrorists to be armed with such automatic weapons compared to here where you can hardly see even the toughest criminal gangs with a gun? It's a miracle he could use his Kalashnikov and its even a bigger miracle he didn't target soft civilian targets like shopping malls, bars, random people on the street. If he did and used his weapon the number of casualties would have been very high.
France needs to crackdown on weapons trade in black market.

Because of the strict gun laws in the UK and the fact that there are limited ways to smuggle weapons in the UK. BTW,the attacker owned guns legally as he had an official authorization for it. He legally declared to the authorities owning three weapons : a 9mm glock,a9mm sig sauer and a kalachnikov.
