Captive Soldier Appears on Taliban Video

Guys, the Colonel may have a valid point - but his presentation sucked. While some points abouts this may be unknown, in speaking with Defense professionals, here is what I do know.

He was manning a guard post. He propped his weapon in the corner of his guard tower, left his body armor at his post...and walked away. He left his position unguarded.

If so, he was endangering his base, his unit, and his comrades-in-arms. Perhaps he did not realize what he signed up for. Too bad. While we would spend a lot of time looking for him, I doubt if we will give in to the Talibunny's demands. In which case he may end up dead.

If we do manage to get him back, betcha he will have to answer to a Military tribunal. Desertions are not looked upon too kindly by the US Army.

From what i hear supposedly he was off duty so the endangering his comrades is perhaps going to far but you do have to wonder why he left the base un armed with out telling any one where he was going.
Even wonder why no one at the base gate queried why a solder was heading into hostile teritory with three locals? Something just doesnt seem right about the story we are getting so far.

That's just it. He was not off duty - matter of fact he left his post!
I need to reserve my comments. I might cuss and get banned....

Abandoning a post; Section *** of Pakistan Army Act~Court Martial and the dude goes home also gets something more than 'just going home'

May be he was shifting side.

Ahan!
That's a news.

Drugs can be a motivation. Soviet union troops exchanged weapons for drugs.A person can't escape drugs especially if he is surrounded by poppy crops( i.e if the province he was operating in has poppy crops).

When western armies invade a Muslim country they are called freedom fighters or but when the Muslims defend its own country they are called terrorist. Why?

What does that have to do with this deserter??
