ISLAMABAD: Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Yao Jing on Tuesday said he can’t say that Beijing did not support Pakistan in Financial Action Task Force (FATF) meeting during which the US moved a motion to put Pakistan on ‘grey-list.’

While addressing a seminar on Challenges and Opportunities facing Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the envoy said he does not know yet what happened in Paris as it is a very technical issue.

“China has always praised Pakistan’s efforts against terrorism and extended its full support at every forum,” he asserted.

The week-long FATF meeting was held to decide on the US-led motion seeking to put Pakistan on its ‘grey-list’ for not taking concrete measures against terror finance.

Despite claims of Indian media, FATF has not mentioned such move against Pakistan in its statement issued after the meeting. Pakistani officials stated that country has been given three-month breather to take essential measures to avoid action.

Meanwhile, Chinese foreign ministry’s spokesperson also said that China highly valued Pakistan’s active measures to strengthen financial supervision and crack down on terrorist financing.

He asked the international community to view objectively and evaluate Pakistan’s efforts in the field of international anti-terrorism instead of accusing Pakistan of bias with prejudice.

“Pakistan has taken active measures to strengthen financial supervision and crack down on terrorist financing and made important progress. China gives high recognition to this,” Lu Kang said during his regular briefing while responding to a question asked by the APP Correspondent.

“We hope all concerned parties in the international community can give an objective and fair assessment of this,” he added.

Asw,
I have been seeing some Indian trolls making remarks here and there that its India's victory bla bla bla...
1) That's too early to say.
2) They should be more worried about their own internal issues like rising of RSS mindset Hindu fundamentalism etc etc. Cuz it is always the inner rot which weakens the nations to the core and destroys them.
3) Third its not their victory if at all the news about FATF is true rather failure of Pakistan on International level. If Pakistan would have ridden itself from this menace called extremism or corruption and our corrupt politicians would have given a semblance of what their forefathers gave right after independence. Things would have been pretty different.
4) Blocks on international arena have already been made under world super powers so international politics are also playing part. Pakistan will soon have to choose sides.
Chest thumping or making fun wont do no one no benefit. Every nation has its ups and downs. Trolling others only shows your own bad upbringing.
My only hope and prayers about my dearest Pakistan is that her dwellers may learn from their past mistakes and rectify those mistakes for the better future of coming generations.
Regards,
Adnan

Usually China stands up for Pakistan. So this is not surprising.

US Slams, China Praises Pakistan’s Counter-terror Efforts

Relations between the US and Pakistan continue to fray over whether or not Pakistan is too soft on Islamic terrorist groups operating within their borders – while Pakistan’s “all weather friend” China continues to praise and defend their ally.

Miftah Ismail said:

"If the Americans were interested in working with us and improving our CTF [counter-terrorist financing] regulations, they would have taken the offer I was making them," "But their idea was just to embarrass Pakistan."

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang praised Islamabad's terror fighting efforts in a Tuesday press briefing.

"The government and people of Pakistan have contributed and sacrificed a lot in their fight against terrorism and made great efforts in ground operations as well as combating terrorism in the financial sector," Lu said.

However, Ismail denied that the reclassification will do any serious harm to the economy. "I would rather not be in the list, but I don't think it will hurt" economic growth, he said, adding that Pakistan is maintaining some of its strongest economic growth in years, around 5 percent in 2017.He urged foreign investors to look past the reclassification. "We are focused on improving our economy and overcoming this little hiccup," Ismail said. "We will continue on our path forward."
