Scores of Sikh youth participated in the candle light protest on Monday evening to remember those people who had been killed during 1984 'Blue Star operation ' in Punjab.
The protest was organised by Gurmat Taksal (IGS), a Srinagar based religious organisation.
Protesters sat in front gate of Gurudwara Sahib Amira Kadal while holding candles and placards in their hands.
President Gurmat Taksal (IGS) J&K Sukhbir Singh Khalsa said: “Indian Army attacked Darbar Sahib on the Martydom anniversary of Guru Arjan Dev Ji due to which thousands of innocent pilgrims who had come to pay homage to their Guru lost their lives.”
“It was genocide of Sikhs and unfortunately the killers of innocent Sikhs are still roaming free,” he said
MLA Langate Er. Abdul Rashid also joined the protest and said: “Sikhs and Muslims were both sufferers at the hands of radical Hindutva Forces and Muslims would always stand with them”
Interestingly, local Muslims youth had also participated in the sit in.
A local resident Aabid Hussain said they stand with their Sikh community against the oppression by state.
“We will continue to stand united against Indian regime."
