Cancel licenses so the robbers can come in to your house easily?

How do you effectively fight usage of illegal arms?

And add to the shame, why are terrorists and terror master minds get out on bail?

Karachi: A senior Pakistan security official on Thursday recommended to a Senate committee the cancellation of all arms licences issued in the past five years to bring sustainable peace in Karachi.

Major-General Bilal Akbar, director-general of Sindh Rangers, in a briefing to the Senate’s Functional Committee for the Interior Affairs, told members that evidence had been found of foreign s involvement in recent terrorist acts in Karachi.

However, he further said, to eradicate the terror network, the extensive scrutiny of arms licences was needed.

He further suggested to the government that, if appropriate all arms licences that were issued in the past five years, would be cancelled.

Inspector-General of Sindh Police Gulam Haider Jamali told the committee that four suspects in the Safoora Goth carnage on May 13, including the mastermind, had been arrested.

Jamali further said the militant gang comprised 10 members who were involved in the attack, whereas there were a total 25 militants in the group operating in the city.

The four suspects, police sources said, belonged to Al Qaida and were well educated youths studying at universities in Karachi.

In the Safoora Goth massacre 45 Ismaili Shiites — including 17 women — were shot to death on a bus carrying 57 people on the outskirts of Karachi.

The brazen assault followed fatal militant attacks on several high-profile individuals — including police officers, professors and rights activists.

Jamali said the militants were targeting teachers, professionals and police officers to bring a bad name to the country.

The Rangers chief added that the mastermind of the Safoora Goth tragedy had been arrested earlier but was out on bail when he plotted the attack.

A joint investigation team (JIT) has been formed to interrogate the arrested militants who were brought by the police to an anti-terrorism court this afternoon to get their physical remand.

Senator Nasreen Jalil, who presided over the proceedings of the meeting later told the media that the country could not tolerate tragedies like Safoora Goth.

She further said, in order to forestall more such incidents, the committee was aptly willing to support the police and the Rangers.

The senator appreciated the law enforcement agencies for their rapid action and apprehending the militant gangs that were involved in the terrorism.

She, however, stressed the need for elements behind the operational terrorists to be traced.

Every muslim country has radicalization and secternism to some extent. Malaysia banned shia Muslims, mainstream parties are staunchly anti shia in indonesia and many other countries have terror organizations. People dont die their like in pakistan, everyday and every hour. WHY ARE WE HIT HARDER THEN THEM?
WEAPONS YES WEAPONS
Easy availability of weapons is main reason of terrorism in Pakistan. Look at united States, last year more people were killed by gun violence their than by terrorism in pakistan because of liberal gun laws. This lunatic trade came to Pakistan from Afghanistan.we should dedicate a intelligence agency to stop easy availability of weapons and commercialisation of gun culture in Pakistan and get our hands on their co traders and suppliers in Afghanistan. six figure awards should be given to persons who expose or report weapon traders in country. And Most importantly to build impregnable wall on Durand line to curb the easy mobilization of weapons and terrorists across both sides of border. It will have 75% effect and rest will be done by 25 % effective NAP.

After Safoora Goth incident i thougt about 'one gun each one' if terrorists were attacking the citizens that way. Ok lets reply in the same language. Fight with the security forces shoulder to shoulder. I still have the idea of armed volunteers deployed every hundred meter in the city.

Still wont help. People have guns, and they can easily get it.

Nobody should be allowed to have weapons..

Licensed or not, IMO.

The solution is in giving easy access to arms.
You can't just take a rule from one part of the world and implement it where ever you want.
There is no way to eleminate street weapons in Pakistan. Because
1. Troubled neghiboring Afghanistan
2. Weapon's markets in FATA
3. Even simple blacksmiths are making weapons in villages of KPK, Baluchistan and in adjacent cities of Punjab.

Every criminal can get weapons but on the other hand corrupt police (many of themselves were criminals, recruited on orders of some minister, MNA or MPA ) doesn't allow to carry even licensed weapons. Result, you are watching every day.

Pathetic scene is to see powerful people like Zulfiqar Mirza taunting police with advanced weaponry.

Normal people are not allowed to have licensed weapons to guard against higher ups menace, robbers, militant wings. It should be licensed weapons for all, or eliminate all weapons from civilians. But it will not happen and there is no in between in Pakistan without proper law enforcement.

It should be mandatory for every citizen of age to carry a weapon through out Pakistan.

The Virginia Tech killings have set off calls for tighter U.S. gun laws but anyone wanting to know why those demands likely will make little headway should visit Kennesaw, a town where owning a gun is both popular and mandatory.

The town north of Atlanta had little prominence until it passed a gun ordinance in 1982 that required all heads of a household to own a firearm and ammunition.

The Kennesaw law has endured as the town's population has swelled to about 30,000 from 5,000 in 1982.

"When the law was passed in 1982 there was a substantial drop in crime ... and we have maintained a really low crime rate since then," said police Lt. Craig Graydon. "We are sure it is one of the lowest (crime) towns in the metro area.

Residents say they are comfortable with the image the gun law projects on the city as a bastion of gun freedom.

"There's been no move to get rid of the law. Why would you?" said Robert Jones, president of the Kennesaw Historical Society. "The law is a great tourist attraction. It's the town with the Gun Law.

"People in Europe feel they need to be protected by the government. People in the U.S. feel they need to be protected from the government," said Jones, the owner of a .357-caliber Magnum.

I'm A.K, no one is going to take away my ALLAH given right to bear arms! We have Indians waiting to jump on us and you're talking about disarming us. Why don't we ban cars? There are many bus, truck drivers who.don't know how to drive. We have good gun license system, but it needs updating and computerised to eliminate the bureaucracy. Then thereafter, mandatory gun training.

Your biggest problem aren't the guns alone. It's a mentality that has been set for decades (since Zia's time), where intolerance was supported to the last degree, sub machine guns, higher caliber and automatic weapons even, were made available to political parties to eliminate their opponents. Since then, almost every political party has had some sort of militia's or links to militias. What that turned into, was a mess where human life doesn't have much value anymore. On small things, one's opponents get killed. In fact, for crimes like property, inheritance, etc, entire families are killed in violence to silence opponents.

When law and order is by passed and violence is forced into a society and then supported, that society turns into a permanent field day for terrorist recruiters.

Guns by themselves aren't bad. Guns in people's hand who are either too emotional or have spend years of their life in a culture where ego rules and human life doesn't have value, is the most dangerous thing, as this situation goes much beyond gun crimes, this then turns the desperate population of that society towards extremism and eventually, terrorism.

The law and order has to be enforced to the fullest. That's why they started to give capital punishment to murderers and terrorists. This would set an example to some degree that human life is invaluable and people to take human lives, will be punished by law the most.

Then, to reshape the society, people, the society, leaders and scholars have to come out and start to put out a positive message no matter what the circumstances may be, the current government has done a great job in staying positive and doing things (KPK to be ruled by IK's party, Baluchistan to be ruled by Baluchis, etc), which are positive and give out a positive message as a society. This is one of the reason why I was against IK's marches as they were violent in nature. A leader sets the culture for his or her followers. When the leader uses abusive language, threatens, orders to commit violence, the entire population of followers will do just that.

So guns aren't the only problem here. The intolerance of others religion, political views, insensitivity towards other humans and their lives are real issues.

Our enemies are killing us with guns so we should totally avoid guns because this is lethal stuff. What kind of logic is this ?

There would be different situation if one or two passengers in safoora bus incident possessed guns. Even of ordinary type from local blacksmiths.
