Defense Deal With Italy

Philippines Will Be Buying Combat Aircraft, Radar From Italian Firms

MANILA, Philippines --- The Philippine government will buy military aircraft and equipment from Italy.

The purchase of Italian military equipment was announced by Malacañang after President Benigno S. Aquino III met with Italian Defense Minister Giampaolo Di Paola yesterday.

The meeting sought to forge “strong defense cooperation between the two countries,” according to a Palace press statement.

Among the equipment being considered for procurement are “medium lift aircraft, coast watch system radar, multi-role combat aircraft, and long-range patrol aircraft,” the Palace said.

Medium lift aircraft are helicopters.

It added that the military agreement with Italian defense suppliers seeks to boost the Armed Forces modernization program.

Double thumbs up for President Aquino who pays attention to strengthen the military and defense force. Good job!

If it would deter China's aggression and prevent war...I think we should change our Philippine constitution. We should allow the Americans to station and build nuclear missile bases here manned by Filipino-Americans. I do not share the belief of some of our leaders that we won't be attacked(nuclear) if we do not have any nuclear weapons here in the Philippines. I think having nuclear weapons in our country will make any country think twice before launching any nuclear attack in any of our cities.

Possessing Nuclear weapon does not guarantee peace ...its just a insurance policy to prevent your country being runover by enemy...
Border skirmish cannot be ruled out though...but enemy is conscious of the raising the stakes
No country would use nuclear option as a first resort to settle a border dispute..it would face international alienation & all types of sanction embargoed upon it..
Still i think Phillippines shld makes more effort to secure its future ...by investing in Science & Development
As far As US Alliance goes....Uncle sam would love to have a base in SCS ...its a option worth exploring

in the tradition philippine defense role, they were too rely on US-Philippine partnership to defend the air and the sea, which create a significant gap between the AIr Force the Navy and the Army. With the US involvement gone, there are vitually no asset to protect the Philippine coast and airspace. (I believe there are current no fighter or anysort with the PAF)

Philippine need to wake up and start planning on their defence as the current situation with China is heating up like a pressure cooker. Philippine need it quick too, perhaps Philippine should also eye on the Australian F-18A when they retire them and get them and refurb them into operational status, those plane are better than the CF-18 and i am pretty sure it's cheaper.

We are every since the American left thanks to those stupid lefties A***holes but our money and facilities were too short to cover much of what the Americans were giving us but on the subject of CF18 its a bit of a long shot until the F35s come in to service well if they will ever come to service that is? but other weapons and system will be offered but am sure its not so big as a new ship or new plane just yet but the National Arsenal just bought some equipment for its modernization program i hope more will be coming soon from Canada and our other allied countries with MOA

Quick fix for Philippines are missiles, land to sea, land to air make sure Philippines have plenty, then worry about Naval and Air force.

Philippines are US allies, right?? I wonder why US don't offer 24 F-16s grant like they did to Indonesia.

it's not the US, it's the Philippine problem, i think they did not gave an definite answer to the US congress

The Philippines is planning to procure small boats and ammunition equipment from Canada as part of its continued efforts to upgrade the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

This was announced by Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin on Tuesday after he signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on defense cooperation last Saturday with Canadian Minister of International Trade Ed Fast.

The small boats that Manila plans to buy should be able to maneuver rough waters, he said.

Manila already has placed an order to improve the country's capability to produce ammunition, Gazmin said. "We are also looking at small boats for rough waters."

No "big-ticket" items such as fighter jets would be procured from Canada.

With the MOU, the Philippine government can have access to the expertise and skills from Canada.

Philippines Orders South Korean TA-50 Jets
With new territorial challenges facing the Philippines and an antiquated military force riddled with inefficiencies, the Philippine’s ABS-CBN news released a report on 20 June that the Philippine Air Force (PAF) has decided to acquire twelve South Korean TA-50 trainer/fighter jets.

The news report indicates that the aircraft are being offered at a price of $29.8 million per unit with a total package cost of $591.3 million. This purchase is part of a Filipino modernization program estimated to cost a total of $1.5 billion. This acquisition will include spare and replacement parts, training, necessary technical support, and other necessities required to get the aircraft operational.

Philippine Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin told ABS-CBN news that modernizing the PAF’s air defense capabilities is an urgent priority in light of recent territorial disputes with China and is needed to polish the nation’s international image.

What Fighters will the PAF have is the question

Well three just comes to mind given the limited budget my country has

T50 (No longer G2G now under bidding)
M346 (same as trainer as you sings have)
Yak 130 (a possible contender)

. .
All Trainer & Me is Indonesian

My bad dude am sorry. Yup i know right but as for now they say that's all the country can afford to buy with our limited budget but if we can use our reserves ($80 billion untouched money just 2 billion) We can buy all we need in 2 to 5 years time but the government does not want to spend our last line of cash because of a lot of factors most are political said yes but true.
