Can this Chinese Operating System (OS) replace Windows?

Why would I need a wrapper over Ubuntu ? What is it that Ubuntu does not do and this one does ?

It comes with look changer which is a nice feature other than that you can also turn Ubuntu into a win 7, win xp or mac lookalike but in zorin its less time consuming

for me. even a black & white screen is fine as long as it gets the job done, and that's a senior engineer talking to you. You get the drift ? It has to bring bring something to the table. something substantial!

Almost all the people who have previously commented here did not grab the rationale behind the development of this OS. The basic motive is to alleviate reliance on American OS's, especially when it comes to the military utility of any OS. I strongly doubt if the Chinese are trying to outweigh Windows with this OS, they have other intentions.

linux does..cannot use that as justification for every other diastro

except it does not alleviate anything. It is simply a linux distro at the core with a windows like user interface - kind of like a ubuntu- in Chinese. Unless they plan to recode each new extension separately and not use the open source projects that all linux distros are dependent upon for advancement (which clearly is dependency) they cannot claim to be independent.

If on the other hand you say the purpose is for Chinese military to have its own source code version for any O/S they use, then yes, this would give them that. This way they can review 100% of the code and ensure that some foreign company hasn't embedded something.

Thanks but with MSc physics as my fate I don't think it's required :-(
I have used other distros too like open suse and fedora but they have issues with detecting external hardware like cameras and USB DVD drives Ubuntu doesn't give me this headache

No appealing, the UI looks just like water down XP while Microsoft already dump XP. The core is Linux kernel. Ubuntu, Fedora, Suse...etc. are much better variants of Linux and yet none of any Linux distro is considered Window killer. Waste money, waste time to invent such poor copy cat, re invent the wheel. I have not mentioned Apple OS. So many inventions from China are either re invent the wheel and or clones. Truth hurt.

Vietnam has never invented anything in history. Truth hurt.
