Ok so here's the deal, like uncle Icarus said, MFU is nothing, in fact, his sitting at the helm has actually divided the TTP as the Mehsud's are not at all happy with his self proclaimed "Aamiri" which is good for us. The next guy in line (I'm not gonna say his name) is someone who is actually a brute and even if we eliminate him there will be someone else to take his place kinda like the "Hydra" phylosphy. So instead of going for the leadership from the get go, it is better to clean up our own home first, clear the sleeper cells and leave them with no soldiers to fight their battles and then clean up the leader ship so that there is no one the new heads stop spawning. It is a long and hard battle for the army which they will not win without civilian support.

Don't troll the thread. Read the thing in context. Cross border raids in terms of going in on Int missions by either sides SFs is common, what we are talking about is legitimate targeting of terror camps, which everyone including Pakistan is bound to honor .
My point is exactly the same that you can not do something without severely affecting the relationship with the neighbouring country - it may be diplomatic row or a retaliation, and a nation can not afford to stand isolated diplomatically in the world today, nuclear weapons or not. North Korea a case in example. And it is not about being militarily weak or not, any troops entering a neighbour's territory without information is implausible as its a violation of territorial integrity as also a potential powder keg. Your contention of not dragging diplomatic relations is not only unrealistic but also suicidal if one looks at the decision making process of conduct of anti-terror operations, including your own decision making process,

All such acts of cross border elimination of terror camps are with consent of host government usually ... until there is a rogue nation involved.

As much as i would love to see that guy's head over a stick paraded down the roads of Islamabad, the diplomatic fall out would be disastrous for both the countries. and in a way, we would have walked right in the indian trap.

you see, Pakistan is progressing and growing (slowly, very slowly) and Indian attempts to keep us embroiled in an internal conflict are now being dismantled and though successful at first, will soon come to an end IA.

Under the current status quo, a successful Pakistan is a threat to india and thus wants us to fight a war, this time not with India herself, rather the Afghans.

It's not a good idea to act unilaterally at this time. What little can be gained, and it probably is little, is not worth the trouble or the risk.

What are we waiting for? .Our Special forces are well trained and battle hardened . actually we are capable of doing counter-terrorism operations and if i'm not wrong we have done much operations in afghanistan but doing at this time it will be like giving afghanistan to india on a gold plate..

Afghan airspace is the property of the ISAF. There isnt a kite that flies in Afghanistan or hundreds of miles along the border the ISAF doesn't know about. Fly a plane or drone into it's airspace and you;ll be intercepted by F-15/16/22s. Keep that in mind and continue.

But then, I was trying to drive in the diplomatic/political requirements to the member, then realized in two posts of his that the gentleman has absolutely no clue as to the importance of the same as the raison d'etre for any military action. I am aware of diplomatic relations . but it is necessary to take unusual steps in unusual conditions. correct me if I am wrong . Except Turkey , none of these ISAF nations strongly condemned the APS attack . No FB page was filtered . But when we will take defensive action, they will be left red faced .If ISAF is unwilling to target these bastards , then what should we do? Turkey is targeting the Kurds in both Syria and Iraq. Turks don't care even about presence of Russia in Syria . I think a weak country like Afghanistan cant give us a big diplomatic blow .

The following is a partial list of events relating to the Afghanistan–Pakistan skirmishes. Most of these events cannot be independently verified because news journalists usually have very limited access to reaching the areas where the fightings take place. It is very difficult for journalists to reach these dangerous areas and the militaries usually do not allow them.

• 13 May 2007 - Afghan soldiers attacked Pakistani military outposts which they claimed were illegally built on Afghan soil, one Pakistani soldier was injured. Pakistan's military responded with artillery fire on targets in Afghanistan, reportedly destroying three ANA border posts killing 32 Afghan soldiers.[14]

• 3 February 2011 - One Pakistani and 7 ANA soldiers were killed and three others wounded after a clash broke out along the border between Pakistani and Afghan forces including an Afghan Colonel. 3 Afghan Soldiers was taken Prisoner by Pakistani Forces and later returned. An Afghan commander in Khost confirmed the exchange of fire and alleged that the incident broke out after Pakistani troops in Waziristan opened fire towards Afghan police posts in Gurbuz District, claiming the Afghan engagement as retaliation. However, a military official in Peshawar said Afghan troops fired on an army checkpost in Ghulam Khan, North Waziristan and that the fire emanated from Afghan territory first. "We are responding with artillery and mortars," he added.[15]

• April 28, 2011 - Border firing broke out in South Waziristan. At least 12 Afghan troops and one soldier from the Pakistan Frontier Corps were killed in the clash, although another source put the Afghan casualties at 8. The attack came just a week after Afghan soldiers had struck in Lower Dir, killing 2 Pakistani security personnel and 40 militants. According to the Pakistani military, Afghan troops opened "unprovoked firing" from across the border and also damaged a market, causing troops from the Pakistani side to respond with fire. However, Afghanistan blamed Pakistan for the clash and denied any Afghan casualties, claiming that only three Pakistani troops were killed. According to Pakistani intelligence analysts, foreign coalition forces have been encouraging Afghan troops to attack border posts. Pakistan also demanded for an immediate meeting to discuss the incident.[16]

• June 2011 - Afghanistan blamed Pakistan for killing dozens of Afghan civilians in cross-border shellings conducted for several months. The Afghan government called for the immediate cessation of the artillery fire from Pakistan against Afghan villages. Gen. Zahir Azimi said around 150 missiles fired from Pakistan had landed in different areas of Kunar province.[17]

• July 2011 - Over 150 Afghans in Kabul took to the streets to protest and condemn what they alleged as continuous cross-border shelling and bombardment by Pakistan in Afghanistan's eastern provinces that were said to have killed 12 and left a few wounded. The angry protestors expressed anger over the 470 rockets fired into Afghanistan allegedly from the Pakistani side. Pakistan rejected the Afghan government accusations, saying a "few accidental rounds" may have been fired when it chased unknown militants who had crossed over from Afghanistan and attacked its security instalments.[18]

• 27 August 2011 - at least 2 Pakistani security personnel were killed and seven others injured in Chitral after militants crossed the border from Nuristan province and initiated firing. The Pakistani government blamed Afghanistan, saying since their expulsion from Pakistani tribal areas, militants were regrouping in Kunar and Nuristan with the support of local Afghan authorities.[20]

• 25 September 2011 - Afghan authorities claimed that more than 340 rockets had been fired over the course of four days from Pakistani territory. The rockets damaged a few buildings, resulted in the death of a child and also forced hundreds to flee their homes. An employee from the Afghan Ministry of the Interior did not disclose the source of the cross border shelling but said: "We call on Pakistan, whoever is behind the attacks, to prevent it immediately."[22]

• 10 October 2011 - Pakistani security forces claimed that they killed 30 Afghan militants when a group of 200 insurgents from Afghanistan crossed the border into Pakistan. One Pakistani soldier was also killed in the exchange.[23]

• 12 January 2012 - Pakistani Special Forces Troops from elite Special Services Group entered 4 to 5 km deep inside Afghan borders from lower dir area in pursuit of militants. Afghan Forces opened fire in retaliation, 11 Afghan Soldiers were killed in the exchange of fire. Pakistan immediately withdrew without any casualties. Afghanistan also blamed SSG Commandos for taking away the body of a killed Afghan ANA Major.

• 8 June 2013 - Pakistan Army Aviation AH1 Cobra Gunship Helicopters crossed the border from North Waziristan into Paktia and hit 3 TTP Targets before returning, Afghan Forces showed restraint.

• 20 December 2014 - JF17 Thunders from Pakistan Air Force Western Air Command Flew into Afghanistan in Kunar Provence and reportedly Hit 27 Targets. Air Strikes were carried out in three phases throughout the Night and reportedly 50 militants killed. An ANA soldier was also killed when an Afghan mobile Patrol was mistakenly identified as a militant vehicle by Pakistani Aircraft, SSG was also sent in to get the bodies of as many militants as possible. ANA Troops did not retaliate to the Pakistani Aircraft as the Ministry of Defence (Afghanistan) directed not to engage Pakistani Forces.

Then , what should we do ? . Can we afford and bear another APS like incident? Look at India . Indian army conducted cross border raid in Myanmar . If Indians can do it , then why Pakistan cant do it? Afghans hate us and situation will remain same whether we conduct operation or not.

We cannot. It takes more than training and professionalism to carry out such operation. It takes spine on part of the Government and that is what we lack. We won’t be getting involved in any such miss adventure not because our forces are not well trained or even well equipped for such a deep penetration but because I do not feel the government will have the guts to authorize such an operation and then stand by their decision if anything goes bad. Also Pakistan is not in a position, not talking about military capabilities or the skills of our men in uniform but about our diplomatic weakness, to take any such extreme action. We all have to admit that 5hit happens and the fact Is that in our current position of our foreign relations and the amount of effort we are putting in to improve that, if it happens with us, NO ONE will have our back. (despite around 3 years gone, we are still without a foreign minister/ don’t tell me about that advisor, I like in the same world and know about him but he is not your foreign minister for crying out loud)

Considering all this, there is no way we will be able to pull it off. All the courage and professionalism of our brave soldiers is no good unless they have a strong government behind them to take strong and bold decision and then stand by them.
