in 2007 MMRCA was suppose to cost $10 billion or 42000 core INR...
IN 2007 exchange rate was $42 rupees per dollar.

Today the 2 finalists are suggesting costs of $20 billion (give or take 5%) exchange today id over 50 rupees per dollar. Meaning indian tax pays will have to pay 100,000 core INR for the deal that was suppose to cost 42000 core inr.

THE DECISION should have been made today 26th DEC .

they have delayed it again MANY BELIEVE THE MOD are suggesting alternative should be explored that $20 billion is fat too much for a 4gen mmrca deal which will only arrive in 2014 and license production in 2015.

ITS TOO COSTLY & TOO LATE

TO cancel the deal and wait for LCA MK2 will mean by 2017 iaf will field the following

15 sqds = 272 su30mkii
10 sqds = 180 upgraded mirage2000, jaguar & mig29
2 sdqs = 40 mk1 tejas

27 sqds only or 492 planes

ALL MIG21 including bisons are ready to for mothaballing & 125 mig27 are not suited to a future THREAT from PAF oR PLAAF esp.

in 2017 I BELIEVE mk2 tejas a bigger more powerful fighter could be ready for FOC and mass production. AT a unit cost equal to 1/3rd of the MMRCA

is this not a better option WITH a throw in safe gurard of EMERGENCY additional mirage2000 (50 planes)2nd hand from UAE QATAR or even france

If you look at PAF they have clearly decided that EUROPE fighters are just not affordable and F16 will always carry sanction issue.

THEY have gone for regardless of capability for a low cost meduim tech THUNDER which will come quckly and affordable cost AND GIVE MASSIVE TOT from china.

THEY CAN UPGRADE LATER

WHY CANT IAF do the same with TEJAS

I don't think it is too late by any stretch of imagination...As far as costly is concerned then talk in real terms...Compare the inflation in India vs Inflation in Europe and then get to the real number...

if people think the meduim to long term answer to PLAAF is over priced euro canards that we will need SERIOUS money and we will learn nothing ourselves.

HOW EVER painful or slow for ME both the LCA & AM,CA are or should be india,s no1 priority. SPEND the money here, buy the technology or steal it.

IT works for china and for PAF why not india

WE are too big a nation to be BUYING LOCK STOCK AND BARREL from oversea stil

WE WILL KILL OFF LCA with this MMRCA business that is my fear

WHY CANT IAF do the same with TEJAS
bcoz there is no need for it....PAF doctrine is way different then that of IAF...apart from that you already stated that they cannot afford those planes...which is fortunately not the case with us....

The latest rumar in MOD is India finally going for euro typhoon & american wepons + ELTA 2052 ASEA initially .

What are your basis of this fear??? Is there any shortage of funds to DRDO for Tejas??? MRCA and Tejas are completely two different planes meant for different purposes...

payment will be spread over a period of 8-10 years ...so no worries.

Important point are

-- this birds will serve us for next 40 Years

-- Need to get rid of obsolete inventory

-- offset clause of 50 %

MMRCA is a medium combat platfrom, SU-30 is a heavy combat platform. LCA mk1 and even mk2 will be in the light category.

The MMRCA is a sequel of the Mirage platform!

This is how the requirement is established. Your claim of LCA being killed by this is totally baseless.

Now, increase in price of the acquisition is a different thing and I concede the point that fall of rupee will increase the cost significantly!

I also fear A MASSIVE CROSS OVER OF simultaneous PROJECTS

If wat hear is true in 2017-2025 we have

MMRCA license production 2015- 2024
LCA mk2 production 2017 ONWARDS
PAK FA FGFA license production 2020 onwards

I hope this MASSIVE financial commitment TIME and effort does not EFFECT fgfa commitment in future

can you imagine FINANCE MINSTER saying sorry no mony for FGFA for 5 years THANK YOU in 2020

imo lca & mmrc are related BY ONE MASSIVE overriding factor MONEY $$$$$

ONE project can kill the other for lack of FUTURE investment
