Can Attack Helicopters Shot Down Fighter Jets?

Yes, its very much a reality, some versions of Cobras and other modern combat choppers are equipped with sidewinders and other AAM, and if one can manage to put one behind the tail of a jet, then u know wat can happen.....

The answer is yes. Iranian we able to shoot down 5 iraqi Mig21s and Mig 23s during Iran Iraq war using sidewinders from cobra helicopters. This is a documented fact with serial numbers of the planes shot down. I dont remember that website anymore.

that was is 30 r more years ago now helicopter will wiped of from air if it picthed against a fighter even before helicopter pilot now there is a fighter in the air n even he dont now where the hell missile came from

Yes. Low flying aircraft could get shot down but they would also have to be pretty close.

Only if
- The heli was equipped with a Air-Air missile.
- The aircraft was unarmed and within range of the missile.

There is no way a heli can shoot an armed aircraft in one on one battle.

Heli would be shot down tens of miles from the aircraft.

its unlikely today but possible Iranian Cobras are an example.

The advantage that Helicopter has is instantaneous turn while hovering 360 degrees ...if the two meet in air and fighter misses the change to lock on , the plane will be making a inflight turn while the helicipter will already be targeting its tail in 4-5 seconds...time while its making a turn, helo could launch 2-3 missiles if radar is good on the helo

Provided the helicopter is armed with missiles that can lock on targets in air it an get kills

Speed wise , fighter jets have great advantage and also they can lock on helicopters , a helicopter can't outrun a fighter plane it has to engage in battle - the only chance helicopter has is if it can hide by landing - Fighters are fast striking

If there are like 4 helicopters and 1 fighter plane and they are with in dog fight distance , probbly the adavantae is for helocopters which can hover , but fighting from ditance and high low altitude perhaps the fighter will always win......

Techhology does plays a big role , what kind of trackin is being used on helo

While its doable I would prefer to be in a 4-4.5 generation fighter plane , and armed with bvr ... personally then be in helo moving at 300 miles / hr max

Yes when an aircraft is flying and heli comes in the way, jus like chicken crossing a road and car hit er

i think yes but only if an aircraft is flying low. most of the modern attack helicopters got air to air missiles and also a great cannon with a firing angle of 360 degrees.

hey remember the AIR WOLF it could shoot any thing down...lol

Hahah... yes, the "supersonic" chopper Airwolf (a modified Bell 222A ) can shoot anything down, and that was back in the 80s, surely now helicopters can go "hypersonic" in the 21st century, LOL.

Now seriously, while engaging BVR/A2A missile fight, no one would expect a helicopter to win, and fighter jets would use their sheer speed to escape if out of ammo, but let's assume they are both locked in a dog-fight situation within visual range, using on-board guns/cannons/IR missiles? choppers can pull out some great stunts, especailly in complex jungle/canyon/mountainous terrains, etc. Fight jets just don't want to fight that low altitude.
