I think today we should look forward to our common ASEAN future.
There might be the day ASEAN become a federation of states, the way US is federation of many smaller states.
If that day come, then there need no war among us.
Hypothetical, yes. But who knows the future.

For today, if every ASEAN states satisfies with current border, if ASEAN states could solve border dispute peacefully, there will be no war. We S.E.A people has suffered for too long poverty and backwardness. Let tomorrow be the day where our children enjoy European's prosperity like wealth, quality of life, and scientific achievement. Our children will be called Professors, Bankers, Lenders, Teachers, etc. Let the future problem be solved by our children's ingenuity. Let the world respect us people the way European have been respected.

the EU is a success model, based on mutual respect and equatility. it is not about surrendering sovereignty. member states transfer a part of their sovereignty to a supranational instance. but get some rights in this instance in return. one country one vote. rotating chairmanship. the largest country germany has the same right and obligation like the smallest one as luxembourg. the system guarantees no country can impose its will on others.

germany pays more 12 billions of dollar a year to support other less developed member states. however, germany has the same vote like all other states. can indonesia pay the same amount to support others? let say $5 billions at start?

While the 50 states of US can govern itself, those states are not fully independent compared to the European Union where each nation-states still has some degree of independence from one another.

NO, Asean is not EU, least the US. at present, at best Asean can develop to another Asian EU. but that is a long way to go, maybe in 50 years, until Asean has a central bank, a central government, a central parlament and so on. by keeping the national sovereignty. other than that is unrealistic.
