Cabinet approves policy for local manufacturing of mobile phones

Big giants like Samsung are assembling in Vietnam and Bangladesh. Apple is thinking to shift to India. This should be our policy, to make Pakistan a favorable destination for global giants to relocate. This produces investment, and much needed jobs along with raising the skill set of people. Currently our workforce isnt capable to work on even an automated mask producing assembly line.

Surprised by so much negative reactions.

Interesting part is all the persons making and hue and cry shared plan to contibute anything to Pakistani industry.

Bro It's not about being negative but it's indeed frustrating when Ministry of Science & Technology is run by a lawyer and his biggest achievement so far has been a moon calendar. Also I don't find any reason to celebrate when all Govt's including current one were quick to subsidise Sugar to promote exports than Software.
TIP can still be privatised in partnership with Siemens as they already have 40% stakes in it. It can be converted into a Software/technology Park similar to Pune. I don't find any reason why it can't be used to manufacture PTCL modems and 5G Equipment in partnership with Huawei or ZTE.

The thing is that it is easy to setup an electronics manufacturing line. The govt amd its planners just never ask relevant people. And relevant people think that they are worth too much to guide the govt. Problem on both sides.

All one needs is 200-300 million rs. Granted, this is a big amount for a lot of Pakistanis, but for saiths its pocket change. They literally have billions stashed here and there.

Hell, i say if we cant setup an ic fab plant, we should and must invest in ic packaging. We must get as close to the thing as possible. While setting up IC design centres all over the country. Use locally designed chips in locally manufactured phones.
Agreed. The issue is these saiths earnes money from textile sugar cement real estate and stock market and they dont want to take risk in modern businesses.

This is because of parliamentary system. If you want technocrats then witch to presidential system.

Atleast he developed lunar calendar and has an inclination towards adopting scientific method which is suerly an improvement over past.

Regarding local production for God sake its not just the government responsibility but yours and mine too. So start doing something rather than complaining. Share ideas that can be used to benefit under the policy may be someone can use it.

They dont have the mental capacity to understand these things.

Naah, he isnt serious. Everything that he does is to stay relevant in politics and media.
He doesnt even know what is happening in his own ministry. For eg his minstry held a ddwp meeting in april, i think, and approved some pc-1s, while he, a week later, ordered the approved pc-1s to be submitted in psdp-plus. The genius didnt even know that they already been approved. His ministry is full of babus and khushamdis who know nothing about S&T, sab mil kr aik dusray ko phuddu lagatay rehtay hain.

Nothing runs on charity. It's Govt's job to facilitate investors to invest in technology. Make it more attractive, give tax benefits. If local investor is reluctant than attract foreign investors.

Don't expect a common Engineer/Technologist to churn out new technologies and then find an investor while there is no one to invest in Pakistan.

A calendar which can be downloaded from NASA website. Let's be honest, he is using it for his political mileage than the love of science.

It's called healthy criticism & that's what I've done done regarding TIP along with providing possible solutions. Privatise it if Govt can't manage it.

Thats what this policy is about which you are critsizing. The policy is to facilitate now its job of the people of Pakistan to use it.

Why not? This is common in world.

May be you are right. I take my words back defending him but on general basis PTI is much better than other governments. They are making things right on genuine basis and overhauling the processes. This is painful task but is succeeded will ultimately result in sustained growth.

Maay be you are trying to do constructive criticism but apparently in my opinion it was just criticism. You can be more helpful if you can share some specific actions where improvement can be done. However, lets agree to disagree here.

My criticism was lack of policy than the policy itself.

Nothing will bring us more joy than a successful Pakistan

We need to build technology parks and link our Universities with them. Right now our Universities are not linked to our industry also we don't have any technology parks. The 21st century economy can't rely only on agricultural or textile exports.
