Cabinet approves construction of 69 bridges in Myanmar

That is a separate project. It will be from southern Mizoram

Nevertheless it will serve the purpose of better port access.

Yes it is similar to CPEC project, a port and corridor to link India's far east via road corridor to Sittwe port in Myanmar. And according to Pakistani logic, it will turn Myanmar into a developed country lol.
Other than the infrastructure improvement the GOI has to certainly pressurise the Tatmadaw to act against the rebels of United Liberation Front of Western South East Asia.

PM modi is smartly trying to improve relations with all small and big countries by investing and construction of projects . This strategy is also paying off like the Afghans are quite impressed by the new Parliament they got or the Iranian port in which India is investing . Pakistan could have tried the same but because of lack of funds its not happening . l

Any strategy is build after SWOT analysis. Pakistan may explore some other ways to improve relationships and influence in the are of their interest.

great news,,,Indian northeast has historical n cultural ties with Myanmar,,a close relationship with them is a must for regional development

Any updates on the reopening of Stilwell Road?
I hear no plans of its revival. Probably it doesn't serve any trade purpose to GOI since already the majority of trade takes place via Nathula route in Sikkim.

Has anyone noticed how the Chinese string of pearls have vanished. Once upon a time the Chinese trolls on this forum used to keep on warning about their pearls.
If look at it historically it been hugely incompetent. Like sitting pretty and doing nothing, when we were being encircled. it was not such a huge task to make willing neighbors part of the economic benefit of India's growth.

inteligence ? maybe. Millitary base : nope.

China is facing it's own economic turmoil . It's domestic growth is slowing down . Hence growing the economy is most important.

Its a win win deal for both, Myanmar can give us land access to ASEANS countries
Myanmar is changing fast unto modern nation state and we can't afford to ignore greater economic cooperation with them

I hope it gets connected to Sittwe port in Myanmar, built by India. Great development there.

If we can tag for members from NE then we could get a better picture @Abingdonboy . I know of @Tshering22 only.

Sorry buddy. Was away due to work for a long time.

The TKK project will be very useful in a lot of ways. Although I cannot speak for entire region when it comes to supplies and transport, I personally feel that this development will ease the transport of essential goods into the entire NE through port and road transfer.

In addition, if this connects to expressways leading to Thailand, then we will have tourism by road and will also allow both nations to peacefully trade and build people to people trust.

However this has to be done simultaneously with flushing out militants in the region.

@Parul I m sorry , could n`t reply on time , was away for work.
about topic , really excited to see the current govt's effort and attention to develop this part of the nation .
Better connectivity will definitely help to boost the economy of the region and possibly mute the demands for secession and other form annoying tribal-clannish activities. Improving infrastructure , both local and in neighboring countries is just first of many steps, that must be taken for proper development of the region. Its good to see that GOI has acknowledge the need to reopen old historical trade links between N.E India and neighboring countries which had ceased after WW-2 and the events that followed it.
This video roughly summarizes my views.

so it looks like there is a very real possibility to get into a nice SUV from the UK and drive all the eay into thailand via central, south asia into south east asia. Hopefully that happens in the next 30 years. I plan to do that the first few years of my retirement.

Dunno about from UK to India.

But you will be able to drive from India(Western part) to Thailand(Bangkok) - a distance of over 5000 kms by 2020 itself.

Btw the roads are being built and upgraded between Thailand and Vietnam as well.

So you should be able to go till Vietnam in a few years.
