"Former minister of fisheries Mir Manzoor Panhwar, sardar and head of the Panchayat (which makes Karo-kari decisions on daily basis) in Dharki Tehsil of Ghotki District, has declared a legally married couple as Karo-kari and demanded that either the couple and their one-year-old daughter be handed over to him for punishment either by ‘sangsar’ (the victim is buried up to his/ her chest under the ground and then stoned to death by members of the community) or by throwing them before starving dogs (kept unfed for eight days). The other option is for the accused Mohammad Ishaq’s brother Mohammad Essa to hand over his sister and daughter to the sardar as compensation. The sardar being a ‘kind’ person is offering them to choose how they would like to be punished.

Why has this couple been accused of Karo-kari? Because as the sardar of the village was to give his approval for the marriage even before the couples’ parents. Going against his decision means inviting his wrath...

..Mohammad Ishaq and Sobia were legally married in Sindh High Court Karachi. Sobia’s father had suggested this way out as the sardar’s rules were known to all. But as soon as Mr Panhwar found out about this development he sent his posse of 70 thugs including DPO Iqbal Dara, ASI Irshad Rajpar and Gul Mohammad Dandu to punish the village."

This seems pretty nice system for the Sardars

3In effect a Sardar can ask for any woman in the village as long as he follows the following steps.
1) Find the girls brother
2) Accuses girls brother of not having a valid marriage
3) Threaten death unless girl is handed over

Since the Sardar seems to be in charge of making accusation, proving it and passing the judgement as judge it can't be too difficult to prove anything. World is flat ? Proved. Pakistan flag is green and black ? proved.

Thank God we have members who prefer sense and morality over tribal identity. Pakistan has been deliberately positioned in increasingly tribal trajectory, it serves the polticians but not Jinnah's Pakistan.

Gets the sardars daughters and do the same thing with her first.......i know its wrong but onces a few feudal wifes and daughters have had the same punishment as the poor villagers maybe there heart of the feudals might get softer.

Now this is nice to see - members, both Pakistani and Indian, condemning a barbaric act by a depraved individual, instead of one side or the other dragging out similar atrocities in the others nation.

Now if you all could make this a more consistent behavior across the other threads as well, it would make life for the mods, and participation on the forum for everyone, so much easier and more pleasant.
