Not in Pakistan Army where it still remains the main assault rifle. The G-3 is used as more of a marksman weapon these days.

Battle rifle.*Not in Pakistan Army where it still remains the main assault rifle
well yes, technically, it is a battle rifle but that is our main gun in all scenarios. Also the G3A3 is termed assault rifle in some reviews but still i agree that it falls more under the category of battle rifle.Battle rifle.*
Assault rifles will not be as effective in Pakistan as Battle rifles are. 5.56 isn't the best round to go for considering that most of our engagements are beyond 300 meters, and the 556 stops working at 500 meters...
G3 could stay the primary, for CQC those silly M4s should suffice. Maybe we could even go for the locally built G3S? They need to change it's caliber down to the 5.56 which was designed off a round designed for varmints, but hey.well yes, technically, it is a battle rifle but that is our main gun in all scenarios. The point i was trying to make was that while we do have others guns, dedicated for CQB or other specific missions, the G3P3 and G3P4 remains the main gun of Pakistan army.
It may, the thing is we do not use G3 as marksman rifle ONLY, this is what was being discussed actually You need to go back a few posts.G3 could stay the primary, for CQC those silly M4s should suffice. Other than that, In CQC a grenade should suffice, don't you think?
I mean if there are civilians there the Army shouldn't be operating there, SWAT teams should be handling that.
The G3 was never meant to be used as a Marksman rifle, the HK41, the SR9, PSG-1, ect were made to be used in that role.It may, the thing is we do not use G3 as marksman rifle ONLY, this is what was being discussed actually You need to go back a few posts.
As for a new rifle, i think we do need a better gun, lighter in weight and most importantly with multiple firing modes like singe shot, full burst and 3 shot burst. This is what we lack and need to get however i do understand that changing the gun for whole army will take some serious $$ and time as well. Will love if we can start some evaluation process however.
True, Again, but again, i will refer you to the post, read that and you will see what was being discusseThe G3 was never meant to be used as a Marksman rifle, the HK41, the SR9, PSG-1, ect were made to be used in that role.
The G3 was built for the average soldier, as a Battle rifle which doesn't have the range constraints of the then era Sub-Machineguns. It may be heavy, but it sure as hell will save your life if there's a Talib with a PKM ontop of a mountain.
It was meant to enter service with different variants, for different roles. For example:
The Squad leader could have the G3A4 with a HK79 GL.
The gunner could have the MG3,
The Automatic Rifleman could have the HK121.
The Rifleman could have the G3A3/4,
The Marksman could have the G3SG1.
and the Engineer/Medic/Demolitions/Specialists could have the HK33.
All of these weapons use the same 7.62x51 NATO. Thus you can fully arm an army with different weapons for different roles with the same 7.62x51 round.
The G-3 is used as more of a marksman weapon these days.
Coming up with a bullpup variant of the G-3 is crazy.
