That is the most ridicalous comparison I have come across in a long while. Ever heard of cherry picking? Well you just did that. Did you know the elite of Chad or Niger are better off than the average Pakistan? That is not saying much.

A measure of a country is how it provides for it's bottom 25%. The schooling, health, social provision, justice and housing. Simple things like are there pavements for the poor to walk in some poor area? Is there public sanitation, water, health provision in the poor areas? That's what separates the chaff from the wheat.

I know Pakistan is far better than what most people in the West think. I know it is far better than India despite that country having a better reputation abroad but let's not get nationalism cloud our thinking and start running ahead. All you do is lose your credibility.

Many of the migrants to the West are Pakistani and this is used by many to argue that Pakistan is desperately poor compared to say India as the latter has less migrants. I always say that migrants often tend to come from the not so poor backgrounds because the costs requited to migrate are beyond the very poor. The poor in India are so starved that they don't have even the wherewithall to consider moving across country let alone across continents. Furthermore India is on the easern flank of Pakistan with the border acting as a hindrance to Europe.

@Vauban The issue is not of blaming anybody. That hardly justifies mass migration. The problem is more practical. If any countries on the European littoral regions become unstable that leads to chaos. These conditions are ripe for smugglers and mass movement of people because there are no official controls. Those countries become jumping grounds into Europe. We have Libya and Syria as examples.

Italy and EU had been in discussion with Qaddafi in getting his help to prevent migrants from Sub Sahara Africa. The real wall between Europe and Sub Sahara Africa should be in the middle of Sahara desert. This is where Libya could easily have been used to plug any south north movement. We all know what happened. Now Libya has become a highway to Europe.

Actually Romania was actually far ahead of Pakistan 30 years ago. The GDP/capita numbers that you are referring to are in the prices at that time and would be a lot higher in towards prices.

I would say that countries like Pakistan/India/BD are more like where Romania was 50 years ago. However, that is not to say that it would take 50 years for fast growing economies like India/BD to get to where Romania is now as they are growing like 7-8% per annum with low population growth of 1% a year. Say around 20-25 years for most of South Asia reach Romania's GDP/capita as of now would be sensible.



I will say again - stop interfering in these 3rd world countries and then you have every right to keep them out. If you play a part in destabilising them, then don't complain when they come knocking at your doors for shelter.

Granted France did not play a part in destroying Iraq but it was a prime mover in destroying both Syria and Libya.

Whatever state are economy is, we are in a damn stronger state than bangla land, the average Pak is in better shape, looks like he eats better than average bangla and our infrastrucuture is far better, we have better and larger technical community ie more physicst, engineers etc and technology at our disposal.kudos
