Change of stance wrt Canada and Aus was prodded on by the US no question about that, but isn't it in our interest. India has a genuine enemies in our neighbourhood, The US moves in the Asia/Pacific region was at the behest of its allies SK and Japan. India's look east policy gels quite well with the US policy with Asia. Aus is gearing up to be more active in this scenario. Japan and India are coming closer. The US hasn't made any wrong moves wrt to India, Lets face it its not their fight but they have the presence of mind to give a helping hand. The US acknowledges Indian concerns and are addressing it. In return we are doing our bit by supporting the US economy with a few defense deals. They are not giving us a raw deal till now and are genuinely looking at us as partners. Recently Indian concerns with Burma was actively supported by the US. They don't need to bother but they are taking their job of being a super power seriously and are safeguarding genuine democratic countries interests.
No there is a huge difference in the US policy and of it's allies and Indias policies! Indias look east policy has mainly economical aims, we have no plans of placing troops in other countries like the US. Even our military ties in that area are aimed on fighting terror and piracy, not on countering China.
Also the US didn't changed their policies to us, because they like us now more than they did in the past. Pakistan is still it's main ally in the region, their interests are simply changing and that's the reason why a pro Indian policy was important to them. Today just like in the past, our relations to Russia are an issue, but today China is the much bigger threat to them and with that in mind, India suddenly looked much better to them. Not to mentioned that they are behind anything that makes money and a growing India with a huge market for their products, be it defence or civil related, is important for them. So important that they even pushed the nuclear deal through, although countries like Australia, Canada or Germany were against it initially. Today, any US ally is also happy to get deeper relations to us and although that's opens a lot of potential for us, we have to maintain our independance and keep ourselfs out of the wars of the US!
All the US is looking at are their own interests, nothing else! They want to maintain their superiority and China is indeed a possible challanger and to keep them in check, the US needs us, besides the allies like S. Korea and Japan, that are dependent on the US anyway.
