A construction work for an observation tower of Border Guard Bangladesh was forcefully put to halt on Monday by Indian Border Security Force at Benapol check-post in Jessore.

A BSF unit led by Haridaspur Company Commander Lakkhan Singh came to the area on the Indian side of the border around 5:00pm and protested the construction activity for the tower inside Bangladesh, quoting BGB Shalbagan post Commander Nayak Towfizar Rahman said our Benapol correspondent.

BGB stopped the construction activity apprehending a deterioration of the overall situation.

Construction work for the observation tower began on the same day under the instruction of the BGB chief, Towfizar Rahman added.

Meanwhile, a flag-meeting took place between BGB and BSF on Tuesday without any resolution in the matter.

Major Rayhan, 26 BGB Battalion and Commander Lakhman Singh, 36 BSF Battalion led their respective sides in the meeting.

Commander of 26 BGB Battalion, Abdullah said, BGB was constructing the tower in conform to international laws and they are going to continue construction activity after a resolution is reached by the headquarters.

Commander of 26 BGB Battalion, Abdullah said, BGB was constructing the tower in conform to international laws and they are going to continue construction activity after a resolution is reached by the headquarters.

If such a tower is in accordance with the already established treaties between the two countries, there is little possibility that BSF resistance will hold water. A watch tower at a certain distance from the border line and with an mutually agreed height is a necessity to keep track on tresspassaers and smugglers. There are hundreds of such towers across the border.
