British Airways To Resume Service To Pakistan

No big deal, Emirates, Turkish and Qatar airlines already offer very attractive packages between UK and Islamabad and Air Blue also flying direct service.

At the point of typing this, no 2 seats are available for flights from London to Lahore until 16th January at the earliest, and Islamabad is all booked as well. This includes Emirates, Etihad, Qatar and PIA!!!

This would explain why British Airways want to resume flights. Demand > Supply.

Open up London to Karachi. I HATE PIA! Absolute sh*t airline, but my family has been stuck with it due it being the only the direct route.

i think it is deliberate attempt to destroy PIA as it is already in crisis

PIA cant be saved through protectionism. It can only be saved if its converted into a business, which it is, instead of being a charity for the corrupt political party workers.

My father used to work for the PIA.
He said, "Entire PIA is at the mercy of Pilots."
This is true for other state-owned legacy carriers across the globe as well.
Any union or association of commercial pilots have a lot of pull both regionally and internationally and the management has no choice but to yield to any demands they make or suffer the suspension of flight operation.
Decades ago, an idea was put forth to the top management of PIA to train a team of young pilots under the apprenticeship scheme. They will act as a deterrence to counter the bullying of regular pilots if they choose to go on strike.
But alas! The politically appointed, incompetent top management didn't heed to the advice and PIA is suffering till this day.

.
Its good move. We need more options because right now its only PIA which has direct flights from UK to Pakistan ..

PIA was in loss even when they had no competition from British airways. If you want to compete with British airways then improve your standards which is worst right now..even bus seats in UK are more clean and tidy than seats in PIA and crew staff is often boring with no customer skills

ISLAMABAD: With British Airways’ first flight set to land at the Islamabad airport on Monday (tomorrow) after a decade-long hiatus, British High Commissioner Thomas Drew has said the airline’s resuming operations is testament to Pakistan’s improving security situation.

The British envoy spoke out via Twitter in a video message, saying: “This is a big day for the UK and Pakistan as the first flight of British Airways new direct service takes off from London’s Heathrow, headed here to Islamabad.”

Drew added: “Britain’s flag carrier is back, the two countries are already so close in so many ways and this will only bring us closer.”

He said that British Airways is the first European airline to return to Pakistan after more than 10 years. “This flight is a symbol of the extraordinary links between our two countries, from commerce culture and cricket to people politics and education.”

The top diplomat also said, “I see this new service as a vote of confidence in the future of those links it will give a particular boost to trade and investment.”

The first flight of British Airways (BA- 261) is set to arrive at the Islamabad International Airport on June 3 at 9:25am.

Thomas Drew rings in Ramazan with warm-wishes

Some 240 passengers will arrive by the Boeing 787 Dreamliner with Pakistani and British flags in their hands, the aviation division’s spokesperson said.

The same aircraft, as flight BA- 260, will depart for Heathrow at 11:10am with passengers on board from Islamabad .

Later in the day, Minister for Aviation Ghulam Sarwar Khan, Adviser to Prime Minister on Commerce Abdur Razak Dawood and Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan along with British Higher Commissioner Thomas Drew, Chief Commercial Officer British Airways Andrew Brem will hold a joint news conference.

As per the flight programme during the summer season, British Airways will fly thrice a week between Heathrow and Islamabad.

Considering presence of large Pakistani diaspora in the United Kingdom, the BA flights will provide a convenient connection between the two countries.

Several other major air operators have also shown keen interest in initiating operations to the federal capital.

I still prefer travelling in PIA from Uk because the flight departure and arrival timings are really good, also the flight duration is the shortest from Uk to Pakistan
