Britain's MI6 To Get Around 1,000 Spies In Biggest Expansion Since Cold War: Report

LONDON: Britain's foreign intelligence service is to get 40 per cent more spies in one of the biggest expansions since the Cold War as MI6 seeks to harness new technology, the BBC said.

The Secret Intelligence Service, or MI6, will see its numbers increase to a little under 3,500 by 2020 from around 2,500, the BBC said, citing unidentified sources. MI6 does not disclose its staff numbers.

MI6 chief Alex Younger said this week that the Islamist terrorist threat to the West would endure for years to come because simply taking back territory from ISIS will not solve the deeper global fractures which have fostered militants.

MI6, depicted by novelists as the employer of some of the most memorable fictional spies from John le Carre's George Smiley to Ian Fleming's James Bond, operates overseas and is tasked with defending Britain and its interests.

Britian is better off shutting this money guzzling establishment of no importance. If Norway had a spy agency it would be more attuned to real security of the state, not a show pony to pretend like it is more important than it is.

I think Britain should resctructre MI6 on the lines of Sri Lanka's intelligence agency.

why? It's not like anyone cares or that Britian will actually make a difference in anything. In an age of approaching economic collapse for UK, it's a better that you actually downsize it than splurge it on these showponies.

No they need this. Britain is a major world player they need external agency for intelligence and counter intelligence and taking out their enemies and getting info on hostile countries. Every major world player needs external agency

Obviously,dont forget that MI6(Known as Secret Service Bureau), which was founded over 100years ago(1909), when no country even had anything similar. As the world's first secret service , MI6 has more experience operating globally under radar than any other agency in the world. They have bern involved in so many flashpoints/conflicts/events around the globe since World war I to this day.

no I think they want to hire tech people to build a time machine and take you back to 1909 when you were somewhat relevant.

Most Indins don't know what RAW is. Hell most people in the world have no clue it exists. Only one spy agency likes to preen itself like a peacock and hog the limelight.
