QUETTA: The Balochistan chief minister and the British High Commissioner agreed on Thursday to increase British investment in various sectors.

This understanding was reached when British High Commissioner Dr Christian Turner met Chief Minister Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo here on Thursday and discussed ways to increase British investment in the province.

The two agreed that Balochistan’s Board of Investment and Trade would consult the British Deputy High Commissioner for trade for follow-up measures.

Mr Bizenjo apprised the British High Commissioner of the progress being made on Reko-Diq project and some other projects in the province.

Turner holds meeting with Bizenjo
The high commissioner appreciated the stance of the Balochistan government on Reko-Diq project and said resumption of work on the site would strengthen confidence of foreign investors in Balochistan.

Dr Turner said there were historical relations between Pakistan and UK and increasing cooperation with Pakistan was one of the priorities of the British government.

He said that Britain was helping Pakistan under the DFID and UK Aid in the fields of education, health, climate change, scholarships, girls’ education and maternal and child health.

He claimed that more than 200 British companies had invested in Pakistan.

He expressed satisfaction over the law and order situation in Balochistan and held out an assurance that for a peaceful, prosperous and developed Balochistan, health, education, climate change and capacity building projects in the fields of agriculture, livestock, fisheries and minerals would be included in the UK Aid programme.

Discussing the situation in Afghanistan, the UK envoy agreed that economic instability in that country would have a direct impact on Pakistan, especially Balochistan.

During the meeting, Mr Bizenjo urged the international community to play its role in reviving Afghanistan’s economy.

The chief minister said that some elements were trying to carry out acts of terrorism to create unrest at the behest of enemies of Pakistan, but security forces were thwarting such acts of terrorism and the elements involved were being dealt with sternly.

He said the so-called separatist movement which left hundreds of innocent people dead was now dying.

“Issues could only be resolved through dialogue as problems could not be resolved through guns and force,” the chief minister said.

I find the hate towards Britain a bit surprising, and to be honest somewhat childish.

The article is about investment, these people cry about the lack of investment, is it really a good idea to mock and laugh, its just silly.

Criticise when it's deserved, but please get serious. It's a little arrogant to claim to be able to judge motives behind everything, in that case everyone has a motive, the Chinese, the American, the Saudis, the Iranians, the Turks, everyone.

So yeah, keep laughing at everyone, return your overseas documents or passports, and go back and sit in an isolated Pakistan, and laugh at every single foreigner who steps out of the airport.

. .
I know quite a few British Pakistani who have bought plots in Gwadar. Our community has a lot of wealth in it now and it is only getting richer. Our elders built villas, we want to build legacies. The thing is most people are only comfortable investing where they feel secure. AJK, Potwar region, Punjab, it's where most of us are from. A lot more people investing there than in Gwadar. If govt can work with the British authorities to spread awareness of opportunities in Balochistan and provide assurances against fruad to investors - quite a lot of that money could be re-directed there.

. . .
The optics here are a bit baffling, why the visit now amidst a flurry of incidents?

They only celebrate the investment of terrorism from their "brothers" because Bin Laden is stuck in their minds. He has confused them so much they no longer know friend from foe. The people that attack them, they bend the knee for. Stockholm syndrome/abuse victim.

I really would like for someone to tell me who are our brothers?
The only brothers I see are the people who call Pakistan their home, the rest have their own interests.

I love Pakistan, and there are things I am critical about regarding Britain but I love the UK as well, it's my home. Please remember, it was with British help that we negotiated the return of Gwadar from Oman, Britain facilitated those talks. So our mutual history isn't all bad, there is also good, it shouldn't be forgotten.
