ISLAMABAD: The United Kingdom is pursuing an unannounced policy of turning down visa applications of Pakistanis, becoming one of the top ‘no-go’ countries for the country’s nationals, a study and background interviews conducted by the Online news agency have revealed.

The British High Commission in Islamabad has turned down thousands of Pakistanis’ visa applications this year, without citing any solid reasons and many on frivolous grounds which cannot be challenged at any forum.

Pakistani passport third worst for international travel

Although the British High Commission in Islamabad and two deputy high commissions in Karachi and Lahore are fully functional, the visa applications of Pakistanis are processed at the Abu Dhabi High Commission, mainly by Indian staff. Even a large number of Pakistanis who have visited the UK twice or thrice in the recent past have been denied visas for unclear reasons.

The British High Commission in Islamabad officially refused to provide the number of applications received and rejected, and how much amount was accumulated against them this year. An official of the high commission said the figure could run into thousands.

Online sent a questionnaire to the British High Commission in Islamabad asking four questions: how many applications were received this year, how many of them were rejected and granted visas, how many Pakistanis who have traveled to the UK in the past have been denied visas and what is the amount the high commission has accumulated against these applications?.

Are British Pakistanis uncivil and lacking basic common courtesy?

Currently, the British High Commission charges fees from Rs14,000 to Rs100,000 for visas of different categories and durations. Bushra Naz, a public affairs officer at the British High Commission Islamabad, in response, said that she had forwarded the questions to the Abu Dhabi High Commission. “That’s all I can do for you. It is better to contact them”, she said.

Mohammad Atif, who had applied for the UK visa from Lahore, said his three consecutive applications were rejected on different grounds. “Finally, when I cleared all the objections, the visa officer rejected my application, because he thought I would stay behind there despite the fact I had lived in the UK for two and a half months before”.

“Each time, I deposited Rs14,000 as visa fees and the high commission always welcomed that because they were getting money against the application. They should have refused to receive the subsequent applications if they had cogent reason to turn down my first application”, he said.

. . . .
When is Britain going to take action against the ruthless killer politician which it has provided sanctuary and itself accuses of money laundering and other criminal practices? The same killer politician involved in thousands of deaths across Pakistan. Turning down visas of ordinary Pakistanis isn't going to do any good for them. Especially since the Brits always claim they need good relations with Pakistan.

Nevertheless, their country and their rules like someone said. It will also be our country and our changing policies vis a vis Britain.

Ya right ...blame the Indians for this also ...have the Pakistanis no shame ?

You having reading comprehensions? The paragraph only states that the visas are processed by Indian staff. It says nothing about blaming the Indians. Don't always feel insecure.

. .
Pakistani nation should introspect on this all this is happening due to few people like anjum chowdhary and those "asian R gangs "

Why? They're not Pakistani citizens are they?

We can't let everybody in. I don't see anything wrong about this.

They deserve to be issued a proper notice citing the reason behind their visa rejection, this summary process is not justified in any way.

So whats new in it, it happens all the time with almost every country, some people are trying to satisfy their false egos by naming Pakistan nothing else.

There are thousands of UK visa applications every MONTHS in Pakistan so the rejection would be in good numbers as well, does it matter, their country their rules.

So all the chest thumping indians can tell me here wether all the indians or most of the indians being accepted, unfortunately VSF global which collects passport at fedex offices in pakistan cant provide the data. In most of the countries most of the uk visa applications are bound to be rejected.

Recently US embassy in Pakistan granted high ratio of visas as far as i come to know, so it happens all the time nothing unusual in it.

When looking to travel abroad, your primary travel document — the passport — can sometimes help you narrow your choices given which countries are easily accessible to you, or hidden behind a visa requirement. If, per chance, you have a Pakistani passport, you are in for filling visa forms for most destinations around the world given how the green passport ranks as the third worst passport for travel freedom.

Henley & Partners, a company that assists wealthy clients with residence and citizenship planning and the company behind the Visa Restrictions Index, has ranked countries according to the number of other countries their citizens can travel to without having to obtain a visa.

Pakistan shares the spot with Somalia, with citizens of both countries enjoying visa-free access to only 32 destinations around the world. Only citizens of Iraq (31) and Afghanistan (28) are worse off.

Ranked number one, citizens of Finland, Germany, Sweden, the US and the UK, all have visa-free access to 174 destinations across the globe, followed by Canada and Denmark in second spot with visa-free access to 173 countries.

“Visa requirements are … an expression of the relationships between individual nations,” the company’s websites notes, and, “generally reflect the relations and status of a country within the international community of nations.”

There are 219 countries or territories on the list ranked into 94 positions, with countries often sharing positions. The maximum attainable score is 218.

The index is produced in cooperation with the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which maintains the world’s largest database of travel information.

When an Afro-American commits a crime, I don't think anyone says that he has roots in Senegal or Burundi and so the said state should reassess their situation. These people are second/third generation British, not our responsibility.

I couldn't care less about their general perception, the fact of the matter remains that you do not have an argument. These people have been born, brought up, schooled or not, in the UK as British Citizens and any shortcomings they have thus developed represent the shortcomings of their government, i.e the British in handling them. You tried to be a smart one and got called out for it which is why you will now try to 'rest your case' despite there not being one to begin with.

I am sure you will be prettier than your avatar but your quoted post really sucks arse. I know you got the giggles by naming Pakistan along three other countries that have visa issues but if you and other haters here had pulled their thumbs out of their behinds and allowed some necessary air to reach their brains then they would have realised that these three countries are facing armed conflict from insurgency to full blown conflict. out of the three it is us who still march on and manage to pull off something like this. so all you haters
up your and more. this guy below hand no issue with his visa when he showed off his skills in Paris.
