What's new

Breaking, Saudi Arabia, China and localization of the JF-17 technology

very strange. they have far more expensive and top of the line jets in their inventory . why would they be interested in a "poor man's F-16"?

The jet is getting better and better and it dosent have the strings of western fighters

. .
Considering landmass of Saudia, JF-17 is not a jet for them, and for the same reason it was rejected by PLAAF
With refueling and more fuel storage JF17 can become serious contender for KSA.

.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz, who also acts as Defence Minister, is said to be working on a project to acquire the technology of the Chinese-made JF-17 Thunder multirole combat aircraft, which is jointly made by the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex and the Chengdu Aircraft Corporation of China.
Tactical Report has prepared a 346-word report to shed more light on the subject and tell what about the Saudi-Chinese contacts on the project.

This kind of report have surfaced many times before without any real contract signing between two parties . Saudi have money and a large land to cover if they want anything customize they can go for J-31 instead of JF-17 . Showing interest many times by Saudi might be a carrot to pursued Pakistan fight for Saudi in Yemen or anywhere against Iran which Pakistan denied.

.
I dunno why they'd be interested, unless they wanna bulk up their military's size and diversify? But that doesn't really make a lot of sense, they have all the gear they could possibly need.

. . .
TacticalReport is such a useless website that no one really takes what they write seriously.
Dont worry, even if we allow u to get it the most u will get is a very toned down version of the fighter, its as simple as that, u saudis aremt trust worthy...

Saudi have F5 tigers jf17 good for theior replacement .

BS
they need to buy weapons from west to keep their support for their monarchies..so no way they will buy weapons from neutral countries like china

.
I don't think this is going to happen, unless they are looking for some weaponry that the US and West are not willing to offer. Ra'ad for example can be offered along with Thunder, this can make the deal more attractive. But they already have Tornados equipped with Storm Shadows and soon Typhoons will be carrying them as well, I don't see a need for that either. KSA is about 2.5 times the size of Pakistan, and with Thunder's short range it is not a good fit for their air force.

Sir if they actually decide to join the project, with the financial muscle that they have, they are sure to get the best package Thunder can offer. First of all, we won't miss this opportunity. But even if you think we would be foolish enough to do that then the Chinese won't let it slip.

Besides I think Saudis are far more trustworthy than the Burmese, and the Burmese will be flying JF17's soon enough. I doubt JF17 uses any martian tech that we would like to keep as a secret.

It can take many years of negotiations to see a fighter jet

They are used to driving Bentley's (with all the extras) - Why in heavens would they want a Corolla??? o_O

Unless we were giving them a package deal of CM's with thermonuclear warheads! :cheesy:

Yes but Saudis can start their own variant of indigenous planes in the region.
