What's new

BREAKING Rustom 2 first flight successful with perfect take off and landing.

dont want to be party pooper. But I think it need more powerful engine.
and more endurance perhaps.

Why... Our UCAV unveiled in 2012 and got operational in 2014 !
ahh things go very slowly over here..

why cant they rope in bajaj or TVS or hero group and make aero engines out of there existing 4 stroke line by arrenging them into diffrent configurations ?

corruption and kick backs from foriegn arms deals

Nah man, in terms of endurance and payload, foreign maal are better, why should our arm forces be forced to use this when better options are available??

But 10 years & more is not normal !!!

Male drones mostly based on existing civil aircrafts...

10 years is just an expression we in india are hearing about R&D of rustom class drones for almost a decade now and had they been serous by now rustom-2 would be oprational but it is not ... why cause corrupt DRDO and its prime users dont want it to be and there are school level and university students who can develop much better systems at almost fraction of the cost involved here ... but is anyone asking any questions :hitwall:

Engines like rotax 914 are available ... No need to develop something new when it's available in mass !

It's gonna create more corruption & slow down !

...

If you go like this you won't be able to deal with chinese growing monster !!!

Indian people have to do something about this ...

This is one huge drone

Same doubt. It's camera angle or its lots bigger than we saw in static display. But if it just can carry only 4 missile I will be very sad with the result

I think it's rather in the middle of both. Not as big as the video makes, but looks bigger than in static position.

It's the size of a small plane.

The wing span makes it look even bigger.

People forget how big these things can be, Heron for comparison:

To be long endurance (MALE) they need a great wing span and high internal fuel volume.

Thats right both IAF and IA have already made up there mind to buy US avanger and predator type UAV & UCAVs and some frontline israeli drones rustom-2 will only die as a test bed and thats it
More than 100 units have been commited to by IAF,IA,IN and NRTO.

+ don't forget, the Rustom-1 was only ever meant to be a tech demonstrator but now the IN is ordering it for operational roles.

BENGALURU: Close on the heels of Rustom-II, India's indigenously developed long-endurance combat-capable drone successfully completing its maiden-flight, DRDO today decided to produce 10 such unmanned aircraft for induction into the Indian armed forces in the future.

"We have decided to produce 10 pilot less or unmanned aircraft like Rustom-II, aimed at giving a boost to India's development programme for UAV," DRDO Director S Christopher told reporters here.

He said, "Young DRDO engineers would work hard to make it successful. It would, at least, take one year to do it. We will also seek to get an order from Indian armed forces."

Christopher said development of nine prototypes of the advanced Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) would be done after the successful flight of the first such drone.

"The first flight will be followed by development of nine more prototypes of the advanced UAV for testing, after which the certification process will start," he said.

Christopher clarified that TAPAS-BH-201 (Tactical Advanced Platform for Aerial Surveillance-Beyond Horizon-201) will be in a non-combat role.

"Media reports are incorrect. Tapas is an UAV and not UCAV," he said.

He exuded confidence in going forward with the indigenous UAV on the lines of LCA Tajas which had proved its ability and is ready to be deployed in the armed forces, both in Air Force and Navy.

On the test flight of Rustom-2, rechristened as Tapas 201, Christopher said the UAV had met the initial expectations and the Rs 1,500 crore programme was on line.
